Weird and random P0134

My home is where my Disco is
Good morning to everyone. Some help would be truly appreciated to solve my particular O2 sensor problem

My Rover has decided to act even in a more weird manner. Every now and then a P0134 is thrown, but only on short journeys. If the code is erased and a long highway journey is done, it does not come back at least that day.

P0134 O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (bnak 1) . So no current flow reaches that, in theory.

It's not the heating element (it would throw a P0135 instead). Maybe cleaning contacts would help.

Any suggestions for reaching the **** driver's side O2 sensor multiplug leaning under the car? I would need a multi-hinged-2-feet-long arm and a 3 year-old-hand, but guess the latter things are impossible to get.

It's a '99 D2 5-speed manual tranny, 4.0 bog standard V8, and 72K miles, by the way.

Thank you in advance for your valuable input and hope your Rover behaves at least this weekend.

Regards from the other side of the pond.

that one is a bitch.... If i remember right, the bitch it really not unplugging it; BUT getting the connectors off their "home base" mount.

You have to squeeze to release from the base.... From top of engine I wedged a very small screwdriver to perform "the squeeze".....
Then from underneath, looking up.... maybe with a bigger screwdriver
i nudged it off the mount...

then I unplugged em......

I about gave up on that one.......

Thanks for the input, mate. I'll follow it by the book
As it always happens with rovers, the bit which is a PITA to service and remove, is the one that fails.
Did not know it was so difficult to unclip, but will take the utmost care.

Best regards from Spain

You got 4 O2 sensors across the pond, right? You might want to practice
on a downstream sensor to get the feel of how they come(1) off the base, and (2) how they unplug. jhk

Mine has only 2, being of the first off the line (build date 98/12) so less things to go wrong.
But the pre-cat driver's side sucks (and it's the one that failed). I'll be doing both as a matter of course.

I guess the post-cat are much easier to renew.

Will post updates, but the D-day will have to wait a little bit. My RRClassic is at the surgeon now. New clutch time and rusty floor renewal as well. Once sorted, I'll get my hands dirty with the D2, but I will begin to soak the O2 sensors in good penetrating oil from tomorrow, once each day, to ease removal.

Regards
Robert

So some miles thrown on the truck and still no code... And I always fill her up at the same gas station. WTF?

Anyway, I've ordered both sensors and will be renewing them anyway, as original ones are well past their sell-by date.

Robert
