Personally, I think Sea World in total shouldn't go away. What SHOULD go away is the amusement parks. We have one here in San Antonio. 20 years ago it was cool, 20 years later it's been passed around like an orphan and I'm not sure, does Anheiser Busch still run it? Seriously, hard to f'ing tell. Anheiser was sold as well.

I think that what should STAY is the research level that they do. If they would take the money that they are throwing towards the freaking park and put it to research it would foster more of an understanding for why the f%ck you don't swim in a giant fish tank with a captive kliller whale that was already responsible for a previous attack.

The level of research that can be performed at the Sea World sites is remarkable, but the level of amusement at the parks is completely negligible.

from wiki.answers.com:

"There is no measure of dolphin IQ, and since dolphins and humans use their intelligence in different ways it is hard to compare their intelligence. However, according to the Encyclopedia of Marine Animals, dolphins have 0,87 ? 10^14 synapses in their cortex while humans have 1,3 ? 10^14, which is about 67% of human synapses. That's probably the best idea you can get of dolphin intelligence. "

Ok, so 67% as smart as a human based on synapses, so maybe not 40% of the population - perhaps more like 20 or 30. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the average Dolphin IQ was 89, but further research is showing me that there is no way of measuring and comparing non-human intelligence to human intelligence.

In any case, they ARE crazy smart, it's amazing what they do in the Navy.

Smart dolphin? Ha!

Show me a wise dolphin, and you'll be showing me something to write home about.

Consider their lifestyle, overall health as a wild species, social complexity, and near-human intelligence... then ask yourself, which species is wiser?
