Afghanistan was a threat. Irag is still a threat due to the insurgents, which is why we spend time, money and lives in Iraq.

As a side note, many european countries had soldiers in West Germany after WWII to preserve peace and maintain order (along with the larger countries' armies - USA, UK, France). Lasted until the early 1950's. What I am trying to say? It takes a long time to change a totalitarian society to a democracy. Seems like our "drive-through" society has a hard time realizing this.

America should have just invaded Venezuala, it's closer and jungle warfare just seems like the lesser of two evils when comparing it to the desert.

I don't know.. I think jungle warfare is much worse. How many lives lost in Vietnam vs Iraq and Afgan? Hell, places like Cambodia are still paying the price for that war almost every day..

planes, trains and automobiles
That's true... Either way it sucks... I suppose Iraq is more of an urban guerilla warfare situation... A damn can of worms is what it is... I wish all of our men and Women the best over there in that awful situation, and truly hope that the situation can be resolved sooner than later...

so we need to invade all countries that pose a threat to themselves? why didn't we invade south africa and the dozens of other countries that had plenty of infighting and genocide ?

i have a hard time believing we are going to change a country and culture in a few years.......or even a decade or two. we seem to think a democracy works for everyone and every culture.

or is it that we just need to get our fat asses into every country that has something we want?

i am all for ridding the earth of evil doers, but do we have to destroy a country, its people and ours in the process?

Hmm, let me see, and Venezuela has had UN inspections, no-fly zones, a dictator that has gassed citizens (or rather subjects), invaded a neighboring country, given money to families of (sucessful) suicide bombers, etc., etc.

We've been in Venezuela before. American and other countries' oil companies helped get their oil industry going before the Venezuelan government nationalized the industry. Venezuela now has Lagoven, Maraven, and Petroven. There may be other goverment owned oil companies too, but these were the ones I saw when I was in Maracaibo and Caracas in 1991.

Why didn't we invade Venezuala back then if we do this just for oil? And, where are the oil fields in former Yogoslavia (if this is the only reason why we intervene)?

Iran should watch out......

We should have just invaded Canada. There must be some oil up there somewhere.

Actually there has been quite a lot in the news lately about Canada's wealth of oil sand. Extrude the crude and they've got a TON of dino. Let's hope we can just make a deal and not invade!

i have never been really impressed with Canadian Beer. and yes i have tried a lot of them. they can keep their Molson and Labatt up there. but i will take a Trafalger or Le Fin Du Monde anytime. :)
i always keep on hand either Red Hook, Magic Hat, Victory or Yuengling. good US micros and good Euro beers are always a safe bet. and Guinness is good anytime.
