Actually, I'm not building the rig, I'm having someone else do it.
Speaking of lame-ass "expeditions", have you seen the commercial for Mitsubishi or somebody, about their vehicles on the "most dangerous road in the world".
It's a graded dirt road.
Yes, it is very narrow, hanging on a cliff. I'd not like to drive on it.
But their ad is for their fabulous 4-wheel drive.
LOL!

Yep. It's suppose to be the most dangerous road on earth. I watched the Top Gear Brit guys drive it on their South American adventure. Great video. It was posted somewhere on here awhile back.

i think a lot of them are on expedition exchange or whatever those other sites are. plus this is the only time of year we dont get rain here in the NW, so many of them are hopefully getting their rovers out. this sight does seem to be very east coast centric.

And I live in a big county, so my expedition might just be up to Walmart.
Try a cross-San Bernardino county drive while avoiding the highways...
Oh wait... my truck broke last week on the highway in SBD county.

Jack, the moron hordes have been here in large numbers for a really long time. Part of the reason why guys like Marc O have dropped off here is that they actually have fulfilling lives and Dweb became less of a priority.

I think that's bullshit.
I've never bought into the "I've got better shit to do" argument.

In the glory days there were plenty of people who led busy, interesting lives who were still all over dweb.
If you go back to some of the great threads a lot of the posts are from late at night. It wasn't uncommon to have a raging hydraulic vs electric discussion get a dozen or more serious posts between midnight and 6 am.
Back then people made the time because it was just too good to stay away no matter how fulfilling the rest of their lives were.

Furthermore, it's not like quality participation on dweb was high back then because people just sat around and posted. Those were the glory days for fourwheeling in this community as well. Everybody was getting out. You had to get to the Rubicon at some point just to be able to participate in the discussion. Guys were driving cross country just for a week of hitting the trails. And that common experience fueled the discussion. Many of those great threads were started by trip reports and the arguments were largely anecdotal.

Maybe Marc bought a Toyota, which would explain your fulfilling life theory.

You have a point.

By the way, electric winches suck.

I would have to agree with Jack - it seems as though a "spark" of some kind is missing.

Rob spoke eloquently about the "Expo" bastardization of our "sport" or past time. It seems the expo-thing has somewhat turned this whole past time upside down - There was a time when driving/wheeling was the object or end, now it seems it is only a means to an end which is cooking on $500 grills. (My time at the Expo Rally/Show "thing" in AZ really drove that home for me.)

You are right. They do suck. They suck in winchline when the hydraulic unit won't work because the engine has stalled in deep water.

Many moons ago ( when I lived in Argentina ) we used to run the Yungas Region Road , it is not too long maybe 50 miles IIRC, goes from Coirico to La Paz in Bolivia, major Puker in motorcycles, another was from Cochabamba Bolivia to Santa Cruz de La Sierra , Bolivia continuing to JuJuy , Argentina.

I think I ruinned several pair of jeans :D

Another one I have experienced is the one from Arica Chile * part of the Puna de Atacame ) , we really shitted ourselves when a dust storm hit us as we were making a turn ..visibility 0

As for the board going to shit:

I think it is more of a stagnation problem. After all the dunbasses do bring the funny.

The newest Disco is now 7 years old and has been modified and tested here 7 years ago. There is nothing new being posted tech wise.

Hell even the hardcore guys are going from 37's back to 33's. The guys who aren't are going Toyota and I suppose Pirate.

Also the ability to be able to post simple pics is likely part of the problem.

I need to think about this one.
Ten years ago I was out four-wheeling two or three weekends a month, most of it within 100 miles from home.
Now it is more like two or three weeks a year - but it can be hundreds of miles from home. Doesn't mean I'll ditch a $30 Coleman grill for something ten times as fancy, but a $1.29 gas station bear claw doesn't quite do it on a long trip.
So the intent of expo may not have been all that wrong, regardless of what it turned into.

"Jack-of-all-trades Disco" - that can't be said better. It just is.

"Jack-of-all-trades Disco"

This is why I bought one. It just does better at everything and is a cool daily driver. Once the mods start there are way better options.

The Freelander forum should have blown up but it didn't. They sucked and modifying them was a waste of time.

The LR3 forum should have blown up but didn't. They seem to be O.K. but not really have the ability to modify. People are trying but why???

I think the stock will go anywhere fueled Land Rover sales.

I think "the lets make it better" made this plce great. That being said perhaps it it is time to say we've tried the limits and they are here if you search.

Maybe the Moron Hordes can help the LR aftermarket vendors.

Are you kidding? People who buy $1500 trucks do not buy quality kit. These people are the reason Bottdorf exists.
