I recently was working on my D2 trailer connector and apparently shorted the brake light lead to ground while the brake was appleid. This blew the brake light fuse . Several hours later when I attempted to drive the D2 I found I couldn't get the trans shift lever out of park... I troubleshot the problem and replaced the fuse but it got me to thinking removing that fuse is a dandy vehicle imobilizer, you can start it but it won,t shift period. I 'm posting this as a little food for thought for those of you who tow anything. a short on your trailer or connector could concievably stop you dead and give you a tow bill.
I hope this helps someone.
Merry Christmas

The auto-box has an interlock solenoid and a microprocessor that will prevent shifting use if electrical brake issues are indicated. That is my take on the RAVE version for 97.

?When the gear selector is in the park position, the solenoid inside the Transmission Range Selector Switch is de?energised and prevents the selector from being moved into another gear. To free the selector, the Ignition Switch must be in position II and the brake pedal must be depressed. When this occurs, voltage from Fuse F1 is applied to the Transmission Range Selector through the closed Stop Lamp Switch. The solenoid inside the Transmission Range Selector Switch is grounded through the selector switch. The solenoid now energises, freeing the selector.?
