no, not the tires :D ... the small round black thing on the back side of the front axle.

I ripped mine off last time I was out and not sure if I need to replace it or not. I tried searching, but came up empty. Anyone?

Thanks,
Dave

Without that harmonic balancer, your truck will likely self-destruct in a few months as the change in vibrational frequency will alter/loosen every fastener on the vehicle & engine...

Not to mention every seal will start to leak.

I've got one I'll sell you, but it's going to cost you.....

On the Disco1's the harmonic balancer is on the front axle.

On the Disco2 it is on the rear axle.. and it does have a cable to attach it to the axle (I guess incase the bolt breaks off)..

Well, not only did it fall off but I left it somewhere on the trail because all that is left is the frayed cable. As far as the seals leaking.. with 170K miles, every seal already leaks. I think I will just ignore it.

My broke off on the trail and was hanging by the cable too! I could hear something banging around under there and there it was. A quick clip with some linemans pilers and I was on my way.

ahahaha, its not a balancer, what you guys are seeing/breaking off is the harmonic dampner. It's a steel disc w/ rubber insert bolted to a bracket to the diff. it keeps the diff vibes down. if the rubber were ever to wear or break the cable keeps ahold of it so it don't get tossed into a oncoming or following car. Mine came off the first weekend i took my D1 on a trail, never been back on since. You won't see many off road disco's with em either.
