What is this project worth?

I don't want to sell it, but I should sell it. I hope that I will be moving in a few months and it wouldn't make sense to move it again.

'It' is a 1979 Intermeccanica. This is a factory-made replica of a 1957 Porsche Speedster which my Dad bought in the late '80s which is why it has sentimental value to me. Intermeccanica, which is still in business, built the car in their California factory in 1979.

It has been sitting in my garage collecting dust for a few years now. It hasn't been registered or insured for years. Life gets in the way. Realistically, it is not what I want. I want a modern German DD car and maybe a Defender to work on (in addition to the Disco).

Bear with me as I am not a VW/Porsche expert and I have a long list of things on my mind right now.

-Fiberglass body
-Mostly VW parts
-Does not have the flat floor of a correct '50s 356, i.e. there is a transmission tunnel
-Front disc brakes (356 had drums, I think)
-VW flat-4 with dual Webber carbs (chrome treatment applied by a previous owner)
-4 speed
-The gauge cluster is VDO (from a 914, I think)
-There are no windows, I have side-curtains for it

Problems:
-A few years ago, before my Dad gave it to me, a tree branch fell on the car and broke the windshield. The branch ripped the LH windshield post out of the fiberglass. In addition to the glass and the post, the branch broke the LH side view mirror.
-I only have the frame bows and leading edge of the top, the canvas is shot. I also have the side-curtains, but I don't remember their condition (the plastic is probably very difficult to see through)
-The rear bumper is not attached to the car - I have it, but it needs to be reattached
-Some of the trim pieces like the "1600 Super" logo need to be reattached
-There are a few spots with 'spiderwebbing' in the fiberglass that I believe is typical of a fiberglass car of this age (the tree branch episode seemed to do surprisingly little damage to the body)

Replacement parts on hand:
-new LH windshield post
-new LH side view mirror
-new weather-stripping for windshield

There are usually one or two folks looking for one of these on the rennlist 356 forums since real Speedsters have gotten so expensive.

http://www.rennlist.com/

Go to the forums and go to the 356 section - it will get an appreciative new home there.

A former colleague of mine had a green Intermeccanica convertible in very good external shape but it had a leaking roof and an intermittent carburetor problem. It ran well most of the time. I think she was offered $18-20K for it on numerous occasions but couldn't part with it.
