What kind of political statement was this??

I used to live in Western North Carolina and I can assure you that there are some strange folks running around Cullowhee and Caney Fork.

The bear hunters were all over the place last time we were there. Running their dogs with their expensive radio collars.

I can't imagine that one of those guys would waste his precious kill to make a political statement but you never know.

Unless he got into some altercation with the college kids and decided to try to shock them by dumping a dead bear body with an "I got your Obama" kicker.

I don't try to understand some of the whackjobs from back in the hollers. Like the 80 year old mother goose Menonite lady in the subaru that could barely see over the steering wheel that was riding my ass all the way up Caney Fork road driving like Juan Pablo Montoya around the curves.

It is a shame really.

No it wasn't me, but that brings up a good point. It is okay for Landrovered to think all of us native to WNC are a bunch of backwoods rednecks here in this thread but over on the W thread he's busy calling folks racist. I think he has more in common with John Murtha these days. It really is a shame. FWIW I am a firm believer in meritacracy and that goes against the far left agenda. It drives them nuts! So when one expects folks to advance based solely on there strengths, abilities, and merit the far left label that expectation as racist:rolleyes: Maybe it was all the years in the military that taught me this. It didn't matter what race or ethnicity a person was that got them promoted. They were promoted and rewarded based solely on their merit.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

Wow, who pissed in your corn flakes?

I lived in western north carolina for years. I enjoyed it for the most part but there were some things I did not like.

I remember the state trooper that shot himself in the stomach and said it was a man in a van and the troopers locked down two counties for three days until the trooper confesed to shooting himself in order to be seen as a hero.

I also remember the treatment of black folks by all the good down to earth mountain folk. It was not pretty.

There is still a road called "old nigger church road". Caney Fork is known by locals as "niggers skull".

I remember when my good friend had his cabin burned to the ground because he got into an altercation with a fellow in town.

I remember getting punched in the face when I suggested to the party crashers that they not put my cooler of beer into their pickup truck and drive away.

If these folks are salt of the earth then I don't want any part of it.

Good morning to you too.

With all due respect all those incidences you mention could have happened in any rural setting anywhere in the United States. I grew up here and have experienced some of the same stuff. My two best friends in high school were black and Japanese/American respectfully. I got it from both sides being called a nigger lover on one end and being jumped in the projects just for being white. I do not consider this to be geographically driven but out of pure ignorance and prejudice that exists everywhere. Just so it is crystal clear, the reason I got so pissed is because a comrade in arms was being dis'd, one that I know personally and have much in common. The other is I don't think Obama is qualified to lead this nation period. I don't care if he is green, yellow, purple, or what. There is no way to tally up pros and cons of both candidates and come out with Obama as more qualified. Is that so hard for folks to understand?

Cheers,

Mike

I don't recall mentioning anything political in my post other than suggesting that the Obama signs might have been placed on the bear by someone that does not like Obama.

If you read the "W" thread you will see that niether Chris nor Bannon seem to be harboring any ill will towards me after our spirited debate. in fact we wished each other well and looked forward to more debate in the future.

I did not "dis" your commrad in arms on the basis of being a military man. The subject did not even come up. I will not debate the military on this board. It is waaayyy to sensetive an issue for many here. I respect that.

I know that you and I do not agree on politics. That is clear, but from reports from mutual friends that we have, I hear you are a nice guy and I fit into the nice guy category as well. I am looking forward to meeting you. I think we could be friends provided that the ground rules for campfire talk are established before the beer kicks in.

I do not pick on WNC specifcally, I abhore ignorance globally, assholes are everywhere, that is a fact of life.

I lived in WNC for over seven years. I love Caney Fork. It is my favorite place to wheel. I don't particularly enjoy the three AM redneck 10,000 rpm hillclimbing events that occur on the lower bald or the scary characters that show up out of nowhere from time to time, but it is a fact of life, it is part of the package.

Cheers!

Peace brother! I've been letting the political crap get my blood pressure up and letting other's arguments get me going. I must admit that I probably got some of "tornado's" statements get intermingled with yours. I think what I need to do for awhile is stay away from the more provocative debates here on dweb. I have to many friends to let this get in the way.

:victory:
Mike

edit: Now I hope they get those bear killers and hang 'em by their balls!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE:
The suspects have been caught and guess what. It was students at Western Carolina University not locals! An 85lb black bear is too valuble to hunters to leave behind like that. The six said that they "found" the dead bear (yeah right) and brought it to the campus and left it. As to why the Obama posters were on it one of the students said that they grabbed the signs and put them on the bear in order to keep the blood from spilling in the back of his pick up truck. Judge for yourselves.
