What the h*ll is wrong with LNA? (parts$$$)

I bought some third row seats for my DII, and I got everything included except the striker, and finishing panel that attaches to the vehicle floor. I assumed they were there under the carpet. They werent. SO anyway, I went down to the dealer thinking I'm looking at about 25.00 worth of parts. NOOOOO 211.00 not including the bent steel brackets to mount the seat belt. Thats another 36.00. You know, a Mercedes S500 window regulator is 23.00. The plastic trim pieces that hold the mat down in the trunk, 4.00. Its a 90,000 dollar car.

I know the real deal, is the system the dealers use to markup the parts. As a general rule, it runs around 40% over MSRP on parts. Many times the dealer will run a correction against it if the parts are skewed very badly. Someone obviously forgot to run that. The "finisher" a piece of plastic that holds the carpet back from the latch was 56.00 per side, and of course, there are two, its a piece of plastic 10 inches long. The latch was 26.00 it is a steel hoop. The bolt that holds it is 16.00. There are a few other miscellaneous parts int here that ran it right up. I am lucky in that I will simply go back to the vehicle I got the seats from and take these parts out, but the people out there trying to do anything reasonable with these things are screwed.

How in the hell does Land Rover think they can sell these things for 50,000 dollars with the level of quality they provide? The dealerships are a nightmare (IMHO except LR New Orleans seriously the only place I've had a solid dealer experience...). I dont understand why people buy these new. I truly dont. I love my truck, and I am really happy with it, but I bought it well below market, with plenty of warranty left. If I had bought it new, I would certainly be leaning toward the angry owner crowd. Of course, this is WHY I didnt buy it new, and why I made sure there was plenty of warranty left.

AHHHHH anyway.

It's bizarre because some other parts are really cheap. Brake switch- $27, plastic fog lamp trim $125. Which cost more to make? I'm guessing the switch...

Plastic fog lamp probably takes a bunch of very expensive injection molding equipment and CNC design (or some such). Then you are also dividing this cost between only a few Discos vs a billion Exploders. Brake switch is standard off the shelf stuff = cheap.

However, I will agree. When you compare LR part costs vs some of the online places, they are way overpriced. In fact if you buy something from the dealer, mention this. many times you can get a 10-20% discount depending on dealer and part.

Another good example. LR rear 3rd member = $999. GBR = $365.

Also be aware that not all LR parts dept charge the same price. For large orders, I have shopped around and save several hundred dollars by going out of state to another LR dealer. Sometimes they even throw in free shipping.

Like my service advisor said once "It is amazing when there is a recall those parts used in the recall drop tremendously for some reason"

I checked the price manual, and actually, the dealer is gouging, but not as mush as I would have guessed. LRNA's MSRP for the finisher plate is 43.00. Thats really only about a 30% markup.

I have a cracked manifold in my disco 1 that needs to obviously be replaced. ( see manifold thread) LRNA recalled model year... no wait.. 6 months of model year 97 for the EXACT SAME part number as my cracked manifold but yet my build date did not fall within that 6 month period. So I'm outta luck. I'm looking at $250 in parts if I do it my self and $500+ if I have the dealership do the job.

A little off your original topic, but still pisses me off!

uh....you're already there, dude.

the simple fact is that you're a captive audience...you want it, they got it, you need to buy it.
