What type of lights are you using for under the truck? Where are you mounting them to keep them protected while on the trails?

i'm running 2 hella rubber housing light under mine. i think they are the same one's used in the picture. i mounted one in the front and the other on the rear on the other side and pointed them to the opposite diff. just try and find somewhere where it will be up and tucked away from rocks but where it will still put the light where you need it. you could go with more than 2 but 2 works just fine.

Rubber Hella work lights. $8.50 from www.jeepinoutfitters.com, I've been informed it's not nice to look at EE's site unless you buy from there. If you already looked there you have to buy from them! :D

Do any of you guys who have put these lights underneath your truck do any offroading in muddy areas? Seems like if I had them they would be great for about 15 minutes then they would be covered in mud, and basically useless. Do you have tricks for keeping them clean? Or do you have to wipe them off a lot?

I dont thinkthey are used in muddy areas, but mainly on dry rocky type terrain where "crawling" is neccesarry. These lights then enable the person guiding you to see where you are driving....

Or someone correct me if I am wrong....

I stil think neon`s would be cooler.... :D :D :D

Hell, they make white neons. Street Glow makes them encased in lexan and they are tough enough for anything most will put them through. I am looking at some myself. That's not to say the tractor lights don't work, they do, and they work well. For mudding, however, they may be pointless.

Cheers,

Well look at that... two of those pictures are of Sherman (my rig).

Mud... water... well, I drive through all that shit and it hasn't been a problem.

Here's some mud they've been through: http://www.houstonlandroverclub.com/photos/dealer_event_feb_2004/DSC_1496.jpg

Here's some water they've been through: http://www.houstonlandroverclub.com/images/members_vehicles/bill/DSCF0715.jpg

Here's where one of the fronts one is mounted: http://www.houstonlandroverclub.com/images/members_vehicles/bill/DSCF0381.jpg

Just ensure you use premium wire and connections (water-proof) and you'll be fine.

There's no wiring harness. It's one wire. A hot one. The ground is taken care of through bolting it on your rig.

You'll need a switch and two relays. I used 6 lights... 3 on one side to one relay, the other three on the other relay.

You also need a switch. Since I took off that POS stock rear bumper, I don't have the rear fog lights anymore, so I used that switch to power the relays to make the "underwear" lights come on.

Simple.

Khris, mine are on my rear bumper in place of the rear fog lights. I didn't need a harness since the existing wire is of a sufficient guage to handle 55 watts.
You can get wire and light relays at Radio Shack for pretty cheap.
For switches I've been using a latching cruise control switch with the bezel replaced with a light bezel.

i've had my hellas under about 2 feet of mud and they still work great. the mud usually doesn't stay on mine so i've never had to clean them off. great undercarriage lighting

OK - I'm retarted.

Just want to make sure I understand what I need to get.

1. 1 or more lights of my choice
2. relays (is that similar to an inline fuse?)
3. switches (which will be mounted somewhere inside the truck)
4. premium wires/ waterproof connectors

Does anyone with Visio want to rough me up a diagram to follow?

Are they any of you with more photos detailing where you mounted your light on the undercarriage?

I still have the front bumper fog lights. But ever since I installed my Hella driving lights, any time I flip the factory fogs on I get a short and a blown fuse. That results in no driving lights (front, rear, dash), and me having to pull off the road and replace the fuse. Still have yet to find the cause of it.

Thanks.
