What's the trick getting the fill plug out for 2000 Disco 2 transfer box.

I have a 1/2 drive socket and a 1/2 flex socket drive but cannot seem to get that fill plug out. Any tricks?
Is the socket slipping out of the fill plug? I had to press down on the socket to keep it in the fill plug since mine was rounded off a bit. I also used an adjustable 1/2" breaker bar I picked up from Harbor Freight. That breaker bar has been the most useful tool in my toolbox.

yes it does seem to slip out. I've done this multiple times but it's been a few years and I've seemed to forgot it in my old age. I used 4" straight extension but it seems to get stuck after a 1/2 turn.

no - i just can get it started but the extension gets stuck on that brake drum so I have to re-tighten again and I'm back at the start.

I use a lllllong extension to get past the drum. Too short and the extension is obstructed.

a combo of an extension (4" ?) and a flex/wobble is what I use. Total PITA.

Having done this a thousand times. Use a half inch breaker bar from harbor freight. Put it on, turn as much as you can, take it off, flip the breaker bar over, turn another 8th of a turn, flip breaker bar over, repeat until loose
That Harbor Freight one with the low-profile swivel is excellent for this.

I use an 1/2”x 3/8” reduction adapter, the 3/8 extension clears the brake drum better. I’ve often thought about changing the plug style to an external square but always get lazy and put the old plug back in.

I'll be picking up a set of these on my next trip to HF. That should work perfectly with a 3/4" ratcheting combination wrench.

I love this forum.
