I scored a set of Defender steel wheels for one of my D1's. Only problem, they are rattle can black over the factory flat white. Anybody ever try any of the "wheel" specific rattle can paint? Results? Recommendations? I have the ability and tools to get out a real paint gun and shoot them, but if I can do it with out buying a quart of specialty paint that would most likely be cheaper.

Blast and get them powder coated. I had a set of wolfs that were still perfect 6 years after i got them powder coated by a place in Delaware (powder barons) when i sold the truck they were on.

I considered powder coating. With that said in my part of the world powder coated stuff generally sucks on cars driven off road or in the winter, which is about a strong 6 months for me. Everything I have had that was powder coated has gotten rock chipped, then you get water and magcloride under the powder coat. The results are, the powder coat comes off in bug chunks, and I can't fix it myself.

I've plasti dipped some wheels that look ok (well, they look like plastidipped wheels-but that's good enough). I'm going to peel that off shortly and try the dupli-color wheel paint-from what I've read, like everything else, prep is key. The other thing I'll do besides some good prepping is let it cure for about a week (I'll be traveling anyway).

Yes ,2nd the plasti-dip. I put it on my new black steel wheels about 8 months ago and its been great. Ran a hard winter, wheeling, snow, rain mud. No chipping or peeling. I've power-washed them twice now. 5 wheels took me just about 4 cans...thats doing 2 coats.

Did the duplicolor wheel paint on my LR3 over the past week. Prepped by washing, degreasing, scuffing, priming, sanding, and then the gunmetal topped by clearcoat. None of my wheels were in excellent shape so I am pretty happy with the turnout given I think powdercoating would have been a waste of $$.

Anybody ever had the tires swapped with the duplicolor on? Did it survive. I have a summer set of wheels that I need new tires for and I was wondering if I should do it before or after the tire change?

I like the gunmetal, that may have made me change my mind on the color.
