Where does the negative battery cable connect to?

Are you talking about the actual battery side neg terminal cable or on the alternator side?
If battery side, it needs to be clamped into position with the bolt on the terminal to create a propper connection. You cannot just hold it there.......

If on alternator side.....
On the back of the alternator there should be a black plastic cap that the neg runs to. Pull cap off and reconnect.

Ok this is what I'm looking at. The cable is extended all of the way and will not reach the back of the alternator. I'm assuming it connects to the vacant screw spot right next to the end of the cable on the alternator, but when I hold it against that spot, no start.

Are you sure the battery has enough juice to start the engine even if all your connections are correct?

Yep. Battery is fine. I've also had it on the charger while I've been trying to figure this out and it is at full charge now. But right now, none of the car has power. It's like a blackout.

The battery negative goes to the frame.

Ok. So I have three different places i should put it now, the alternator, the engine block, and the frame.

How about a definite answer? Can someone just follow their cable and tell me or show me where it goes? Mine has a Land Rover sticker on it saying it's the negative battery wire or something like that.

I just confirmed, on my 2004, it goes to the block. Well, it mounts to the large aluminum accessory mounting bracket which is mounted the block. There should be a stud about half way down.

Have to let you know I had a ground issue on my 1997 D1 battery had enough volts after charging however not enough amps to crank it over. Have your battery tested under load, most part stores can do it.

right on for the location.....that is your main neg cable make sure its tight and try to crank if nothing swap in another battery and see

i have to ask why was that "dangling" there? was any major work just done to the truck?
