Where to get a series truck

But on the other, two weeks? Anyone who wants any Series needs to be willing to spend some time searching to find the right one.... two weeks is just warming up, unless you luck up.

I could only spend so much time driving a rented Freelander staying in pubs and travelling the countryside looking for greenlanes and trucks.

As for lucking up, I ended up with a fairly nice 109 three door with a Parks Brothers camper top. Left-hand drive even! And, I bought it from a dealer outside Manchester.

Quite the topping of my Land Rover Adventure in England. Started at the Sod, ended buying a truck. The adventure of bringing it home from New Jersey was a Long Strange Trip including nasty Tony Soprano wannabes, truck stop "Ladies" (I carefully avoided them) and a motel room with bullet holes in the door.

Paul I was going to call you when I got back to Traverse City, Mike Konvinski said that I should give you a call and see what you have to say on the subject of series trucks. Would you mind chatting it up and help me decide what I want to get into? :)

Don't believe a word Mike says about me! I'm just an old long-haired Rover freak.

Gimme a call. Unless the shop is full of people and I'm stressing, I'll gladly let you brain rape me (did i say that out loud?) er, give you some insight, yeah, that's the ticket.

Mike has both shop and cell numbers. Shop number is on the website.

And just how many SIII boxes have you broken versus how many SIIa boxes??? :)

I've broken both. The fact is the SIII is indeed weaker. Whenever I did a Perkins 4.203 conversion I made sure it was a IIa gearbox.

But you are right, generally for a 2.25 engine, there wouldn't be a significant difference. And most people don't know how to double clutch to properly use a IIa box anyway. :p

Contact Land Rover Akron, OH. About 3 months ago, they were selling one with an off-frame restoration for a customer for, believe it or not, $15,000. It may be a steal.

I havent gotten to the point that I can economically consider getting a series vehicle but look at skytoprover.com they lots of vehicles broken down into groups. (i.e. vehicles needing major work to those that need little at all. the same with prices from very little to more expensive.) This company deals mainly with military vehicles so they have some history to them as well. Just look at their site you may find what you are looking for. And then you dont need to worry about importation problems, they have already done the work for you. Good Luck!
