Hi All;
Just finished replacing the RH Head Gasket on my old Disco 1.
It cranked right up. After it warmed up a bit in the yard, it started belching-out a good bit of White Smoke.
It does not smell like oil smoke. It dissipates fairly rapidly.
Any ideas what this could be?
I hope and pray I don't have a cracked head or block.

TNX

Roy

Doesn't smell like oil smoke. Also I didn't service the oil since putting the head back on.

Anecdotal evidence. A friend redid the head gasket on an 04. After the job he started it and it billowed a lot of smoke/steam as if it was screwed. Then he just let it run and it eventually cleared out and all is good now without any issues. Maybe it’s just doing it’s own thing clearing out something that was in there?

I opened the oil cap (not the side of head gasket replacement) and it has water dripping from it. Not mixed with oil, just plain water.

I wouldn't worry about the coolant that made the white cloud. Coolant probably dripped into that open exhaust pipe while you did the job. As far as the moisture dripping from your oil cap, I don't think I would be concerned about that either.

You were right. After letting it run several times in the yard, the white smoke stopped.
My prayers were answered.
TNX again

You folks were right !!!!!!
after a few good runs to heat it up, the white smoke appears to have gone away.
I really, really did not want to take that head off again. LOL
It's a big pain in the neck.
it's not ready for road yet because I had to order the universal joint for the steering shaft.

when you disconnect the steering shaft make sure you secure the steering wheel so you don't fuck up the spiral connector .
