i have been looking at some skinny tires for my SIII and came accross the NDT(military tires). they are tall and skinny and about $100 a tire. so whos running them? i know i have seen some people with them on their rovers. im trying to stay away from having to change rims(to 16's). and if anyone has pics i would love to see them:D

I bought some NDT's for the Sankey trailer a few years back and I'm quite pleased with 'em, but I'm not sure about using them on the Rover...at Interstate highway speeds...when wet. As I recall, they were only $75 (including shipping) for 7.00x16's.

Speciality Tires of America http://www.stausaonline.com/index.html has more than just about anyone else.

Cheers

Edit: Their "Superlug" brand sure looks a lot like the discontinued BFG "TracEdge"....

How about the Michelin's? I found this website, but they are currently out of stock. Seems like a good tall skinny one if you could track some down...

Also the 215/85r16 Firestone Destination M/T is on sale at tirerack.com now. Might be worth a look...but they are closeout and might sell out fast.

I just bought some 245/75r16 BFG A/Ts and now I may have the skinny bug...

i have heard that they suck when its wet on pavement. this rover is mainly just going to be driving around on sunny dads and will spend alot of its time in the field's on my friends farm. the super swampers seem to run $135 or so the last time i checked. i still need to get the thing running right, but as of now i have two flat tires:banghead:

If you buy NDT's, take them to a tire shop and have them siped. Siping helps a lot, but NDT's are still horrible on wet pavement.

Why isn't it running? You going to be at home this summer?

ill be home all summer. last time i took it out i got her wound out to about 45mph in 4th gear. there was almost like a rev limiter if you got on the gas too much. so i was on my way back to the house when it backfired and then was crawling down the sholder.

If you want NDT's, then get them siped. It's not too expensive. Les Schwab over here in the west does it found about $15 per tire. I had the NDT's on my m151a2 siped, and the difference is night and day.

I'm thinking about having the center lug down my MTR's siped to help improve traction in snow and on wet pavement.

Lots of people theorize siping improves life of tire by dissipating heat away from the tire making it last longer. Some manufacturers void the road hazard warranty if you sipe, though.

tires last about 40% longer when siped...that is why the tire companies dont like it.

discount tire still sipes and they will back the tire even if the tire company wont after it has been siped.

I have had all my tires siped for ages and the difference on wet or icy roads is a ton and on the trail there is alot of improvement as well.
