On the new pics that were posted from Red Lake on 9/14, I'm trying to figure out who makes that front bumper on that '03 or '04 Grey discoII? That is really clean looking.

Thanks for the info, one question. So what do they mean by non-airbag bumper? If you have an air bag it won't work after installing this bumper, or you can only install it on Diso 1?

bumpers that are "air bag bumpers" are designed to use crush cans like the oem bumper. keeping crush cans in a system designed around crush cans means your air bag will deploy as the designers intended. a bumper not using crush cans in a system using crush cans will still work, but some would say it will allow the air bags to go off too easily. the big issue regarding a non air bag bumper v. air bag bumper is that you cannot mount a winch or recovery points to the bumper without risk of tweeking the bumper. winches and recovery points should be mounted to the frame. i have a DII and the mentioned bumper and i like it quite a bit.

So let me see if I understand. The aftermarket bumper is more rigid and doesn't absorb any shock which may deploy the airbag prematurly. Right? Other then that the air bag will still work.

You are correct for a non-airbag compatible bumper.

The TJM bumpers are air bag compatible.

The bracket with the four bolts through it is a TJM crush can. This crush can is designed to mitigate any frontal impact that would cause the airbag to deploy prematurely.

If you're interested in a TJM bumper for a Disco2, you shouldn't have any air bag concerns.

koby's photo does a great job of showing a tjm crushcan...the DII tjm mounts a winch in a "tray" secured to the frame and independent of the bumper. so, you can have a bumper that gives you increased approach angles and a steel bumper while keeping air bag functionality along stock design. plus the frame mounted winch tray gives you a solid mount for your winch and you can (as documented on expedition exchange's web site) attach front recovery points on the tray for solid mounted extraction.
