Wifey wants a Defender - '00 D2 TDI 5 speed up for sale?

Wow, this hurts a fair bit -

As I recently posted on the boards here I had an offer to trade my custom TDI D2 with 5 speed for a NAS D90... that may still happen but it got my wife and I talking about it and she has always LOVED the defenders and series trucks. So you know what that means! Happy wifey = happy me.

Anyway being that I am the type of person who never sits still with anything and the D2 is "done" I may be interested in moving to a Defender or coiler series, maybe an older imported one with TDi. Or a NAS D90. No 110's. I may take a trip overseas and arrange to have an '84 or older shipped over.

NO idea the actual value of my '00 D2. Obviously I have a MASSIVE FORTUNE in it both $$ and time. I never built it to make $$ as I planned to keep it - and may still. I love it and love the comfort of the D2, but my wife is more hard-core than I am - LOL -

It has an Isuzu 4BD1T mechanical injected diesel with brand new upgraded Schwitzer turbo, GMC truck 5 speed and LT230 with center lock. RTE springs, Stock axles for now. Custom front bumper and 12K winch with EE syn line. Greg Davis rear bumper. FULLY operational electronics and interior functions. Dash lights are not all lit up at all. Everything is "happy" and has been for some time. I have a LOT of parts still not installed - 7100's all round, sway disconnects, a FULL black interior from a '04 truck (tan interior now is VERY clean) more more. Anyone who has seen the truck can vouch for the instal and that it is all working perfectly. Just got a Maine State inspection sticker a week or so ago.

So I would trade for a REALLY nice clean 25 year or older TDi truck, or a 94-95 D90. High Miles mean nothing to me as long as the trucks are solid. I would prefer a SW but a ST or POE is fine. Any of the trucks will end up with a TDi in them within a year anyway. :)

Just so I have a price in here - let's say $35,000 as that's less than what I have in it. -------------> OBVIOUSLY it's not worth that to anyone but me. Any and all serious offers will be considered.

Doug.

Doug, are you off your rocker? You saw my '84 90 @ the romp. It is in great shape and you could buy 7 of them for what you have in your disco. Just find yourself a good 90 and keep them both...the deals are out there, just keep looking.

Dougs' truck is really nice btw...good meeting you!

Wifey wants a Defender

Ditto my wife! From the moment she saw Peter's NAS110, she's been commenting on how cool it would be to have a 110. But sadly, the price is out of my range:(

I am nuts. Like I said a really nice one would be considered. I need to drive one for a start - can't be any worse than an older Heep Wrangler in terms of comfort I'd imagine.

Like I said we'll see what happens, I certainly would not give the disco away and or trade it for something that wasn't pretty special.

Since the truck is heavily modified I'll give $900 for it. If you return it to stock condition I'll give you $1500. Deal?

No offense Doug, but you are most definitely a fool if you dump your TDI D2 so you can pick up a common Defender. Go for a 1984 and work your magic on that.

Dude, if your wife was TRULY hard core she would want a leaf sprung Land Rover.

Luckly enough i have one i would be willing to trade and it will be up there this summer!

See now, you can have your cake and eat it too.

And i can have a diesel SII Disco!

Doug, in the words of Donald Trump....."You're fired". You shed that badass Tdi Rover that you put your heart and soul into and not only have you gained a public lashing, but you will confirm you are no longer in ownership of your balls. At all.

Honestly :) Keep checking on here and check craigslist and ebay, there are a lot that go for sale for REALLY good prices and you don't have to sell your left nut to get them. It can be a good D90 and still have room for work. But man, don't sell that DII, that is one badass project that you made work and it has "you" written all over it. I don't think if you sold it, people would be able to appreciate everything you did to get it where it is now.

Just my two cents,
Brian.

We went for an hour plus drive each way this evening to visit a friend who had been in the hospital ICU - man I love this D2.

She really likes it too - I may drive the NAS D90 that is "local" (trade deal) in the next couple days and see if I really even like it at all. I'm thinking with really good comfy *heated* seats, lots of sound proofing, nice carpet and a headliner the D90 could be perfectly acceptable in terms of longer trips. I don't need a lot of room - have no kids, we both pack light ( I bring lots of tools though!! ) and just two Black Labs the D2 is way overkill anyway.

We did talk a lot about if it doesn't sell it's JUST FINE and she is cool with that. She did mention that it looks MUCH better with a front bumper on it compared to a few weeks with nothing up there.

To be honest it's not just her that likes the Defenders - I always have. Anyone would have to admit, even if you think it's just "image" that a Defender (or any even remotely "series" looking truck) is just excellent and kick ass. They *ARE* a Land Rover, end of story. Plus I love the small size and nimbleness of them.

My brain hurts.

A pig's ear is always a pig's ear, never a silk purse. Keep the D-II, and pick up a D-90 or Series coiler, and keep it as such- they will never be a Disco, or vica versa....

Dude put the crack down & step away from the pipe!
If the wife wants a defender just buy one wtf. Give up the B.S&T you put in your d2 for a defender. Ha.
I do understand the love though.

Keep your DII. You can find a decent D90 for much less than they were going for 2 yrs ago. My wife and I traded our DII for our LR3 and looking back I should of kept the DII and build it into a nice expo rig. I also have a D90 but it would never be a DD for a number of different reasons. If you are replacing it to be a DD, you will certainly miss the plushness of the DII for everyday use.

BTW, I wish my wife was fanatical as yours. She's still salty about me selling my BMW Z3 for the Defender!

Good luck either way! Defenders are one of the coolest vehicles and I had to have one myself.
