Tell them you're going to tow a Honda Civic.

I've towed a D1 on a trailer behind a D2 before. I wouldn't do it every day, but it worked. Should not be a problem for the LR3, just don't expect to be going 75mph on the trip.

I tow my really heavy D2 (my trail rig) to the trails with my LR3 all the time. I have towed it hundreds of miles and can easily cruise 75 on the interstate. IMO the LR3 is an awesome tow vehicle.

and the best part is, the LR3 while towing my D2 still gets better gas mileage than my D2.

There is a recall in the UK for the hitch coming detached, but not in the US as far as I can tell. Some people in the US are not good at making sure the receiver is seated completely.... if the locking pin is seated, I don't see how the thing could detach, unless your frame is completely rusted out.

I've seen a photo somewhere of the old plow style receiver broken.

Will tow it easily. Braking is the issue. Brake lightly and well in advance to save your rotors. Optimally get a trailer brake if you're going to tow often. One off deal, you're fine.

We have collected a 109" Series 3 2.6litre, and two Discovery 2 V8's behind our D2 with no problems, but tyre pressures and balance/position of the vehicle on the trailer is fairly critical.

Picture is our son's D2 V8 on the trailer, we've bought another since then, as you do :)
