Will the d1 CDL linkage and shifter work in a d2?

I recently purchased a cdl equipped transfer case from a 1999 d1 complete with the linkage for that year - On my local forum, a member is saying that there was no way for him to fit the d1 linkage on his d2, is this true? It seems that a few people here have made this work.

I'm just not looking forward to buying a linkage out of an 04, making a greg davis homebrew, or instally a solenoid in there.

yes

what year is the DII ? If it has the nipple to engage the CDL it will work. No nipple no CDL.

it will work for sure, now that you have purchased a compatible transfer case ... there are tons of threads and install instructions available if you search ... though the 04 linkages are nice ...

Whats the difference with the 04 linkage? Is it worth paying more to get that when I already have the d1 linkage included?

Cleaner install.

What year is your DII ?

'04 system uses a cable instead of linkage making it a much smoother operation and supposedly quieter.

I can vouch for smooth and quiet with the cable linkage ... and you can fit either it or the D1 linkage once you get your new transfer case in ...

Cable linkages are hard to find cheap ... but if you're patient and persistent you'll eventually find one through places like junkyard websites ...

I have a 2002.

So your current transfer case most likely does not have the nipple to engage your center diff. Which means simply purchasing the '04 linkage will not be enough.
Double check your '02 box for the nipple first. This will most likely be the factor that will help you make your decision on which way to go.

Guy's he bought a transfer case from a D1...Clarify what was included, linkage and shifter, or just the lnikage on the t-case? EDIT...maybe i should learn to read too:D It's not that bad to drop the D1 stuff in, just a little time consuming. Someone did a write up...do a search

I haven't seen a new one for less than $500 ... and that was on 4x4ag (no longer there) ... again, they do turn up on the junkyard circuit occasionally, but they go fast when they do ...

ashcroft in the UK sells them for around $475.

Right, but his quote to me to ship to California was $180 ... I double-checked with him and he confirmed that's the cost ... so it's really not much cheaper overall ...

I have the D1 linkage in my 99 and it looks factory, just have to have it installed right.

huh, i guess it got more expensive. the shipping quote for me was quite a bit less. and, even with shipping it's still cheaper.

I didn't mean to hijack the guy's thread onto some other tangent ... rdfast is right ... the D1 linkage will work just fine ...

I have the DI shifter in my truck and I do not wish I spent multiple hundreds more than the $150 I did pay for the DI shifter. The shift action isn't as nice as the 04 DII shifter but on the noise insulation issue I don't think that changed at all. My DI shifter has a rubber vibration isolator in the middle of the shift arm and I know they don't all do that but that might have made a difference for me.
