Hey all,

Potential job opportunity in the boomtown.

Job will pay enough to afford a decent place to live, so no concern there.

Also, I live at 8,000ft and work outside most days, so weather and cold not a concern either.

Any experience with the area? thoughts, concerns, personal experiences welcome.

Thanks,

Matt

Petroleum-related work? If so, I'm curious to know what the job security is in the domestic industry with oil expected to stay below $40/barrel for a while. I've seen news coverage of fracking operations in Texas shrinking considerably.

Maybe he's going to be a repo man.

Heavy-Civil Construction, only related to petroleum in a sense that the taxes and new found dollars in the town will be supporting new roads, airport, hospitals, schools, etc.

The work will not be directly petroleum related work.

That would be a good place to start a repo business....hmmm....

I read an article suggesting the place is a hotbed of sex, drugs, and fights; where people tend to live out of their vehicles regardless of pay, as housing tends to be very difficult to come by.

That was just one article on the Internet, though. I lost interest when I found pictures of the badlands.

Cheers,

Kennith

If I was younger I would jump on it. Cold can be dealt with. Dress right and cover any exposed skin. I wear a snomobile coat when it gets below 10 F. I used to stand on the train platform in Chicago with my whole suite w/bibs and all. Watched one kid laughing at me till he figured out the train wasn't on time and I think he was crying after about a half hour. I was trying to let heat out of my suit.

Go up there and make some bank, when you can't take it anymore bring the money home.

I am originally from LA, so I don't do cold, I can barely tolerate the cold here. Besides, I'd rather fly to CO to visit him than ND!

But when you go back to visit him in CO he's gonna be your rich friend. Money can't buy everything, but what it can't I will do without. I wouldnt do it personally for a perminent thing. Just go in grab as much money as you can and go back home.
