This. No rear door and needs drivetrain rebuilt, rewiring, and brakes, but frame and bulkhead very solid. It had a chevy 4 cylinder and scottys adapter but I'm going to get a running 2.25 so that should cut down on non-running time. It came with a title. That's fairly huge for a project.

I basically daily drive a '71 IIa these days when it's not calling for rain. I love it. All you need is a fishing pole, cooler, and swimming trunks with you at all times. I don't know much about the old Jeeps. I'm sure they're cool. I could just never own a Jeep.

After some reading it looks like many of the CJ5 transfercase and transmission options are are relatively strong, while this is an area of weakness of the SII that can be remedied, but at a price. Rust seems to be of average concern on the CJ5 while the SII has rust prone areas, but others immune obviously due to Brimabright.

I'd take a leaf sprung jeep over a leaf sprung rover anytime. The optional T98 4 speed ends up doubling the gear reduction compared to th series. Too bad the v6 never had the 4 speed option.

Too bad this rover-like top isn't on a classic.

That first one is an AMC. And if that works for you, bump your search to include 76-83. They are way more comfortable than the 75 and you could get a 304 v8

Yeah I don't like the long hood on that one. I kind of like the pathetic old 4 and 6 bangers. Keeps it rolling slow and eases the urge to start messing with axles.

Not sure you can have a straight-six in a short-hood. IIRC, you could have had a 304 in a short-hood, but 258 I6 just wouldn't fit.

He means the 225 V6 not 232/258 I6.
304 was only available the same years as the I6 up until 81. So long nose only

Yes odd-fire Buick 225 Dauntless V6, ironically derived from the Fireball & Buick 215.
IIRC, 90-degree 225 was derived from 300 (which shared many parts with 215, but has a different cast-iron block).

I am partial to CJ5/M38A1/CJ6. If I didn't have a Wagoneer, I could/might have bought one.

it was based on the 198, which was a v6ified 300 which is an iron block with a different deck height and bellhousing pattern than a 215, but thats about where the differences end.

I'm also partial to the CJ5 since it was my first car, but I had an AMC era that ended up with a 360 in it. Way too much engine for that vehicle

If I shat money I'd either find a real clean 77 (so I could have factory disc brakes, had a 76 that frequently lost braking ability) or find one of those brazilian ford licensed cj5 ish vehicles that they used in the first camel trophy. I have way too many vehicles as it is and not enough time to play with them.
