Last weekend I found a warn winch at a yard sale. The winch was in a bucket but it looks like most of the parts are in the bucket. I had a friend that owns an electric motor repair shop test the motor and solenoids and everything works great. I guess I got lucky. Now my question, Can I weld this piece back together? I found a replacement online for 160 bucks. YUCK, anyway thanks as always!

Welding on cast can be done but if you have to ask how your not skilled to do it... No offense intended I used to run several large Navy repair facilities

Might work but it wont handle too much torque... Good Idea, we used to have a industrial version of that stuff. If it was mine I would try that first... A welder that is able to do cast will charge you about the same or more than a new part

dont do anything, just bolt it up, there are three good corners keeping it together and that side still has enough shoulder for the head to clamp down on.

That won't work. The part that's broken is the top, not the mounting base. If the top is allowed to flex, it could, and will, bind the motor/drum.

This happened to Enoch Snyder's Ramsey once. He fixed it with all-thread and some fender washers. More-or-less, he used the washers as a "clamp" to sandwich around the broken area..... It was not pretty, but I think it's still holding up.
