I was wondering if there are any companies that make a winchline cover that covers just the line wrapped around the drum, not the entire winch. I have a synthetic line, and though Viking states I don't need to cover it from the sun, I would still like to see if there is anything out there to cover it with. I tried googling but came up empty handed.

That's an idea, but I was thinking more along the line that the line is already wrapped around the drum and its sort of a sheet that you place over the entire length. What you suggested it more of a rock guard.

Why do you want to cover just the section of line wrapped around the drum? You mentioned that you wanted cover it from the sun, but............

I know Viking has it because I have a few lines from them that have/had it. Personally I don't like those covers as they eventually wear out, fray and make a mess of the winch when spooling. But if you're using the winch a handful of times a year it won't likely be a big deal.

I made a simple L shaped cover out of plexiglass that nests between the bumper and the winch. Keeps the majority of the elements off the rope on the drum day in/day out. Sorry for the gigantic picture...it was the fastest way to illustrate the point this early in the am....
