So Uwharrie is closed for the winter, and I was wondering if anyone is interested in maybe hitting up Gulches ORV in SC sometime this winter?

http://www.gulchesorvpark.com/

I would be coming from NC 27615 and possibly going down 95 to florence SC on the way.

Well?

I'm pretty sure they have camping there, not sure about the alcohol though. One of my friends and I have been wanting to go there, but all the pics make it look damaging and more fit for a beater J**P. But I'd be willing to go. Sometime after the New Year yeah?

Make it sometime after the 8th and I'm game.

LR_Max and I could lead you around seeing as he helped create most of those trails.

If you move forward, I may be interested in driving up from Savannah to check it out.

I will keep a watch on this thread.

Yeah, I am familiar with the area. I created the first map for the place over the summer and got the trail system to show its true face. Since then more trails have been put in, based off that map. I've tried to help and promote Gulches ORV as much as I can. Here directly I'll start working on my trail, have that up and going.

To anyone who is going there, if you have a GPS, go onto the gulches website and upload the coordinates of the place onto your GPS. The entrance is wierd and having a known point will be of great assistance.

On camping, yes they have campsites. They are down by the river (dead serious). Alcohol, none while riding BUT once you settle down at the campsite for the evening, help yourself. If you get a group of people together, you can usually cut a deal with the owner for reduced rates.

I don't camp here because I live an hour away and usually after 1 day of wheeling, I've had enough...usually because my shit breaks.

Pics from my last trip out there.

There is plenty for a disco to do,there were only a few trails that I had to avoid due to the rover being to tall.

sounds intersting but it's almost 300 miles for me so a long drive. Especially if I tear something major up. But I'll keep an eye on this and see what date it falls on.

The owner is trying to market the place as "hardcore". Hence the heavy bias toward showing buggies and jeeps (god damn jeeps).

The reality is that a couple trails (when dry) can be traversed in a FJ Cruiser. I know, I've done it. Then they've got all sorts of trails in between. The beauty of Gulches is that the trails are short. You can park and walk it, and decide if you want to attempt it.

Just a little FYI: my 109 has no problem out there. So you damn coilers should be able to follow the old fart truck.
