I recenlty picked up a 99 d2 for pennies on the dollar. It suffered a batery fire and needed just a couple of plugs rewired to get back on the road. I picked up the parts I needed from a 02 d2 and have run into some issues. The first one is the wire that runs down the p.s. frame rail and into a lower point on the firewall. The wires that are existing are good so I thought I would just rewire it with a new one from the 02. But I have an extra wire from my original harness and wires that do not have the same color markings...boo... Second on is the orange plug that is below the fusebox located in the engine bay and stuck to a metal tab somewhere therein? It has been rewired and there are extra wires that have nothing to match them to with the 99's wiring harness...boo again. The wires that are extra coming from the 99's harness both at the fusebox and the one that runs down the frame rail do have some but not all wires that have matching color. I think that they would obviously need to be wired into the fuse box to stop any other fires that may hopefully not occur again.

picture 1 is of the wire running down by the wirewall.
picture2 relates to my extra wires in the fusebox as well as the orange plug that is in the upper right of the picture.

I believe the harness that is confusing you is what the factory document refers to as the "chassis harness"; that's the one that basically starts at the engine comp. fuse panel, runs down the RHS frame rail, runs across forward of the rear axle and then again to the rear. The probable reason for the discrepancies you see is that there are four versions of this harness, one each for ever combination of with/without SLS and with/without ACE. I know for sure that the two 14 pin connectors under the engine comp. fuse panel (one grey, one orange) carry a mixture of ABS and SLS wiring and the two connectors simply pass them from the chassis harness to the engine bay harness.

In any event, what you need to do is get the RAVE CD for the disco and study the wiring diagrams and connector photos: http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29
