every region has something similar to this going on. Maybe not related to lottery winnings/food stamps directly, but a similar kind of fraud.
The example I can think of around here are students getting married and immediately start pushing out babies. Neither parent works and the state (us folks that work/pay taxes) pay their food bill etc. I have first hand contact with them working at a big box grocery type warehouse. The common theme is these people think being a "student" is their full time job, and their church commands them to have as many kids as possible (which it doesn't). I have talked to more than a few people who have openly complained about being cut off and their plan to get back on is to have another kid! The best part about it is if you asked most people in this college town if they can identify with socialist viewpoints they would swear up and down they hate democrats,The President, and anything that Rush/Hannity/Beck tells them to hate. The whole time they are justifying their need for aid because he thinks his job is being a student and her job is being a stay at home mom!
I don't have a problem with helping out folks who are in hard times, lord knows i've known a few. It just burns me up when a guy who's worked for decades at the same job gets laid off and can't find steady work is lumped in the same group as the 21 year old, pimple faced, never worked a job since moving out of mom and dad's house, kid that decides he can't stand being a virgin any longer, gets married for the wrong reasons and thinks his first priority is being a student not a good HUSBAND and FATHER.
I just can't wrap my mind around how so many people here identify themselves as hardcore republicans, but while they salute the flag with one hand, their other hand is held out waiting for their share. I know this isn't every person in the state of UT, but I was pretty shocked when I moved out here.
