That's right, against my better judgement I am in the market for a p38. It is the only Rover I could get my fiance excited about (aside from an '06 MkIII when we win the lottery). I am looking for a clean, sorted out daily driver. Things I am looking for specifically:

1. Service records a must!
2. Coil conversion a plus, but I am still intrigued by EAS.
3. Did I mention it has to be clean?
4. On the East Coast.
5. Prefer '99+

Post up what you've got! Or, email me at ccm5k at alumni dot virginia dot edu.

And BTW, if and when I acquire a new Rover, I will be selling a '98.5 Audi A4. Dark blue, with gray cloth interior. Sunroof & Cold weather package (heated seats, heated mirrors, ski bag). "Concert" audio option with aftermarket XM, but the 6 disc changer in the trunk is broken. It is very clean, has the reliable 2.8 V6, 5-speed, and all service records since 30,000 miles (currently has about 130,000). Just had the timing belt done, radiator replaced, and all the usual 120,000 mile service items at a cost of $3000 at the dealership about 6,000 miles ago. Looking for ~$6800.

Whats your price range? I am a buyer in the car biz and can probably find you something you want, maybe even my 01 with a 4 year unlimited mile warranty.

Hi
Should find what you need on www.autotrader.com lets you enter a year and price range private or trade - being honest i wouldnt buy a car from a garage that doesnt have there own mechanic on site - most just buy from the auctions & detail it by opening the doors and jetwashing & shop vac'g the footwell's - you need to find a dealer thats prepared to show you the clean rust free floorpans rather than the pretty shine job, and most importantly get it independantly inspected by a third party ie a real mechanic or even dare i suggest a rover dealer :-~ Sell the Audi privatly rather than the dealer lowball it down and sell you there outragous finance and then flip your old car on later to another punter, raise your own finance via a bank & get the car's history before you find out its been flooded or collision damage - be apprehensive about what the dealer is saying many try and add the value of what they call option's which are in fact OEM equipment. if you see something you like just post the pic's and price up here - there's plenty that will help you out, too many times used car dealers arnt so friendly when the thing goes wrong the warranty they try to sell is in fact an insurance policy with the finest small print there is...

I worked for a GM new car dealer years ago and witnessed salesmen litrelly in punch up's over a 'deal', and laughing with the sales manager over the profit margins, when they say 'im not sure if my boss will let me do this deal - ill have to ask him' which is just designed to sweat you into thinking they are doing you a favour and the finance kickbacks and selling muflaps and carmats with a 'paint protection' pack for 500 that cost 90 and is just froth but to them is all extra commision, made me realise never buy a car from a dealer again and learn to fix it myself lol - if you want to see how the trade really works watch that show 'king of car's' a real bunch of turdy salesmen!

I looked at a lot of trucks this weekend. Two trucks stand out as being on opposite ends of the spectrum for me.

Truck #1 is a '98 4.6 HSE with a brand new coil conversion. Clean on the outside, interior is slightly below average (A-pillars need new apholstery, leather is worn but not stained or torn). A/C blows hot. Needs an alignment. Otherwise runs strong. 91k miles. Talked the price down to $7700 from $9000 at a little used car lot.

Truck #2 is a '99 4.6 HSE and it is mint. 51,000 miles and flawless. Buying from the second owner who seems meticulous, has service records, even got the oil changes at the dealership. Still under LR extended warranty until 75k miles or December 2007. Talked owner down to $15,000 from his $16,800 asking price.

The '98 definitely seems fixable, just more than I would be willing to bite off considering my need for daily transportation. I think $7700 is more than fair considering the spring conversion. If anybody else is interested in it, I can give you the details.

I think I am leaning toward truck #2. It's pricey. I think it is probably a $14k truck, but that warranty is probably worth the extra $1000. Thoughts?

I would still love to hear about any other trucks that might be available.

I also found a very clean one-owner 2001 4.6 HSE with navigation for $16,900 with 61k miles if anybody is interested.

Personally, I am going to wait for prices to come down some more. I just haven't been impressed enough with any of these trucks to drop that kind of coin.

I took the coward's way out... 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited with every option except navigation, and the regular V8 instead of the HO V8. Smoother, quieter, and more comfortable than my '01 Disco, cost less than a '01 p38, and its still under warranty. I will continue to live a rover-less existence until I have a parking space for a second vehicle.

just kidding you had the balls to do the senseable thing.

It was a several-hour long "conversation" with the lady of the house that forced me to change my outlook on my priorities. With time, my balls may re-emerge from hiding.

My wife had a JGC for a few years. It was the most boring vehicle we've ever owned. It just felt flimsy. I had a suburu outback that I liked more.

I drove it to work this morning and the scary thing is I didn't think it was that bad. It's a lot more plush than a RR in that way that only American cars can be (you know, fake wood and lazy-boy seats). Tire pressure monitoring system, rain-sensing wipers, adjustable pedals, all sorts of pointless but neat features.

God, I suck. Maybe I should start a thread in the general section to compete with the guy that bought an H3.

Just for the record though, I have been in love with Rovers since I was 8 or 9. I don't think that's ever going to change, but until I have some more resources to buy an import D90 in another couple years, I will have to just hang out on DWeb to get my fix.
