This is just so wrong to me...

http://www.wcsh6.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=71741

"1st Lt. Jon Anderson said he never expected to come home to this: A government refusing to pay education benefits he says he should have earned under the GI bill.

"It's pretty much a slap in the face," Anderson said. "I think it was a scheme to save money, personally. I think it was a leadership failure by the senior Washington leadership... once again failing the soldiers."

Anderson's orders, and the orders of 1,161 other Minnesota guard members, were written for 729 days.

Had they been written for 730 days, just one day more, the soldiers would receive those benefits to pay for school."

Hmm, Bush has a ~30% approval rating and Congress has a ~10% approval rating. Its stuff like this and a long list of others that have created this situation. Now it appears that we'll have Hillary in office. Let's see, Bush Sr for 4 years, Bill Clinton for 8 years, Bush Jr. for 8 years and now Hillary? Does anyone else see a problem with this?

That kind of shit goes on all the time. The AF deploys folks all the time for 179 days. The reason they do this is to not give the individuals credit for a short tour overseas. A short tour is considered 180 to 729 days overseas continuous. What that does is resets the Airman's overseas assignment clocks, thus the brass' way of skirting it is to deploy no more that 179 days at a time then they can just turn and burn 'em. I had two shorts, a long, and then I started flying strat airlift. Hell I was gone 180 to 250 days a year no matter what. Hmmmm wonder why I retired?

Cheers,

Mike

Yeah, she's got bigger balls than any of her predecesors! :p

It's a poor excuse to cut them one day short of the requirement. But then, corps do the same thing every day.

I think it was a scheme to save money, personally.
He's obviously being very generous.
You'd have to be a complete fucking idiot to not know it was a "fuck you" to save money.
So much for "we support our troops".

The problem I see is with Bush Jr having over a year to go. That is a window of opportunity to fuck up a lot more. Congress is at 29%, the low rating is due to the fact they were elected to do something about Iraq and rein in the Bush administration, and haven't. Someone should inform the repubs that support the troops is more than P.R., jacket pins and yellow magnets. The soldiers who come back from Iraq and Afganistan deserve all the assistance they can get, and more. Ohhh... but that would be communist/socialist or whatever - handouts, welfare, etc etc. Same shit, different day.

According to a recent AP poll Congress has 22% approval and 73% disapproval ratings. I hate to break it to ya, but its more than just the Iraq war that has led to these horrible ratings. Each party has been hijacked and doesn't represent the average American any longer. The democrats aim to please the moveon.org crowd and I have no idea whom the republicans are trying to please.

The bullshit of the OP goes beyond any parties.
They should take every single person in the chain of command who did this/let it happen, concsript them in to the military if they aren't already, and send them for 10 years to the most godforsaken duty station in the world. Then bring them back, line them up and shoot them in public.

Yeah, its all kind of depressing. Its like choosing the lesser of two evils. Since when did being a republical mean you have be an evangelical-evolution denying-war loving bastard? There is no place in modern politics for people who may be somewhat fiscally conservative but socially liberal!

Yeah, Iraq is not the only thing. You insinuate that both congress and bush's ratings are low so people think they both suck. No, congress' ratings are low because they havent stepped up to quell bush's failed policies, as they were elected to do. So it is not really a wash. Dems are indeed trying to please the moveon crowd, hell, they number over 3 million members. More importantly, politically active members. Throw in actblue, kos, mydd and all the rest and that amounts to a huge constituent of involved voters, hell bent on keeping the democrats they elect in line with the people they represent. Takes time, but it'll get there, on the dem side. I agree on the repubs, they seem to be a little adrift.

Hi All;

Being Canadian i am reluctant to comment on your affairs but we are friends and neighbours, not to mention comrads in arms in Afghanistan.....

The general feeling here is one of sympathy for the constant loss of your soldiers in Iraq and the seemingly hopeless resolution of that war.....as we also feel for for yours and our troops in Afghanistan, and again the hopelessness of bringing any order to that chaos.......

At least you know your President cannot serve another term, on the other hand we are perhaps looking at a fall election where our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, ( a great supporter of Bush's policys) is pretty well assured a majority a majority government.....

The 2,600 members of the Minnesota National Guard that recently returned home served *22 months* - longer than any other ground combat unit. The group suffered nine fatalities and were awarded dozens of Purple Hearts. The Army wrote the orders for 1,162 of these soldiers for only 729 days, making them ineligible for full educational benefits under the GI Bill, which requires written orders saying they were deployed for 730 days or more. I don't know why veterans aren't marching on Washington...perhaps it is memory or the treatment of the "Bonus Army" of WWI vets. In 1932, Hoover ordered the 31,000 impoverished vets, women and children camped in Washington 'dispersed' by armed federal troops.

Daily Kos numbers inflated by 75%

. . . Kos’s average visit length was all of 2 seconds, suggesting either a coordinated attempt to bomb the site with fake traffic or an extremely low level of engagement on the part of his readers . .

So why are Dems running away from the anti-war left?

Yeah, like some crap posted on a forum is accurate. You know better than that, Mark. No dems are running from the anti iraq war position. Christ, the country polls anti the iraq fuckup by huge majorities. Reality is not what you wish it to be. Unfortunately.

And many of those WWI vets died in the Hurricane of 1935 building the RR through the Florida Keys. Way to take care of our vets!!

Yes. Presidents should be elected for 6 year terms. No consecutive terms.

That shit happens all the time. They will write orders for a day under what would give benifits, like our deployment time. If its over 30 days you get FSA, so they take us out for 29 days, bring us back for 2 and then back out for more.

The idea to purposely screw veterans out of any benefit strikes me as downright fucking wrong.
