I think a lot of the sneers coming from rednecks come from the snobbery displayed by a lot of the owners of our trucks. It's been my experience that of you meet a lot of those people on the trails, and you are not a complete jackass to them they will actually ask you questions about your truck and want to see what it can do. Or maybe I've just been really lucky. Just my .02

I agree completely. Last year sometime I was on trail ride with CROC out at Uwharrie (yes, Pugsly was there). I'd really gone with a buddy driving an RRC and we noticed all day we were the outcasts because a) his truck had some battle scars and b) we weren't into the whole snobbery thing, we just wanted to have fun and do some riding.

After the ride we were setting up camp, tried to make conversation and were just snubbed off. We took our beer and went and hung out with the loud and rowdy Jeep crowd a campsite over and had more fun than we could have imagined. They wanted to know as much about our trucks as we did their's and it was a blast.

They admitted at the end of the night that they thought LR owners were all jerk uppity tool bags, but now they knew it was only some of them.

True.

But when you're on I-70 heading towards the Eisenhower Tunnel, you'd better get those D1's, D2's and D90's in the right hand lane, 'cause there's a line of F250 Superduty Turbo diesels pulling trailers with the cruise control on about 95MPH...Meanwhile my D2 was hunting between gears around 65MPG with the accelerator pegged:)

You got that right, my 350 crew would dust 99% of Discos even with the freaking mobile condo in the bed.

I think its safe to say Rednecks are just as arrogant, if not more so than the snotty people that drive around in their land rovers.

discovery= japanese land cruiser...both have a stubborn 'posse' here in OZ...although i'd prefer to be in the 'cruiser group cos 70% of disco owners are uptight road hugging-doctor-type posers...30% actually truly,WAVE,to you in respect...or just empathy!!!

Dude what town are you in? I grew up in Bloomfield and drove my Range Rover to school in hartford every day. West Hartford is full of Rovers so no one really cared about it. My buddies used to fly rebel flags off their lifted chevy's at school, didn't go over too well. I always laugh when I see one flying on a backroad in Litchfield county. WTF? I began beating on my Rangie from the day I got it so no one really questioned its abilities. When I moved to Mass(HUGE MISTAKE!!) everyone would turn their nose up at me. Now that I'm in Alaska I really don't care what anybody thinks about it, it's just that everyone wants to debate me on it even though it is the first Rover they have ever seen and they don't know jack about it. The same guy who has the monster F350 told me that jeeps have been the same for years since they have 7 grille slats and round headlights. It's getting old so I don't even bother any more, the only time it makes a difference to me now is when I go into the auto parts store and ask for parts for a Land Rover and they come back with stuff for Land Cruisers. :hammer:

I'm in North Granby.

How long ago did you live in Bloomfield?

In my town there are not too too many rovers, I see a few around regularly. This guy in an MKIII Rangey always waves to me and I wave back. If you go into simsbury/canton/avon you see a lot, probably since the dealer used to be in Sims and is now in Canton. That and Simsburians and Avonites try to be really showy (even though if you look at their demographics they are not really the wealthiest towns in the area but w/e, they can do what they want).

People here in Granby/West Granby/North Granby are pretty chill. Keep in mind that East Granby is not part of Granby.

The hick town I am speaking of is Hartland, CT. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know about it.

I love pulling up to some snooty S.O.B. in a stock rover that has never seen more than the gravel in the country club parking lot. I always get funny looks from people in nice shiney clean rovers. I think it's kind of nice to be an out cast---so I'll keep running my 2002 DII with lift, snorkel, body damage, and swampers and make Buffy and Chip say W.T.F when they see me. I can say the same thing about the dumb @#%$#@ with 10" of lift on the F250 or Chevys chromed out running 38"s with stock gearing---good luck with that P.O.S. off-road. I could go on and on,but I'm gonna go hit the trail

I lived in North Bloomfield, just south of tarriffville until I was 18 then I was back and forth from NH, ME and MA for three years before moving to AK permanently. I was kind of thinking you might be talking about Hartland, though one of my best friends lives there and she is definitely not "Red" My best friend drives a green Series 2A in East Granby. I've wheeled North Granby several times and have some friends from there and Granville. Nice area.

My dad had a good quote the other day, something like "at the end of the day maybe they can outwheel you but they're still just driving a Ford."

That's the vibe I'm getting. This sounds like high school rivalry. "We drive better trucks in our town and they're just a bunch of uneducated toothless scum. Come Buffy, off to the country club."

Yea, most girls from Hartland in school aren't' redneck, I'm friends with a few of them, but I would say the majority of the boys like to embrace it. Its interesting. Anyways they like to make fun of my Rover.

Where do you wheel in North Granby? I know in West Granby there is Broad Hill Road and Weed Hill Road. Broad hill can be interesting after a rain storm but Weed Hill is usually pretty fun. Do you know of any other good place around?

I live like 2ft from Granville. If I walk to the end of my street take a right and walk like 100 yards I am there lol. Ever been to The Scoop in Granville?

lmao

I was right there today, silently wishing I had a turbo diesel in my 98 disco. It has 206k now, and I am lucky if I can pull it in 3rd at 60 mph. I'd like to see one of those towing machines try left hand canyon, etc. That would be funny.

I think trucks and cars are like tools. You need the right one for the job.

Hey Spencer! Hows life up there in Kodiak? You qualified yet?

Cool thread, cept I don't consider the kind of folks we're talkin about here to be rednecks. Rednecks are just anybody who does honest manual work for a living. These folks sound like Poor White Trash (or maybe not-so-poor white trash, with regards to the SuperDuty crowd).

Ya'll shoulda been there when I pulled my DII in the local truck pull. Caught all sorts of crap from some kids, and they all climbed into a $50,000 F350 rofl! While I was hookin up to the sled the announcer was makin wise-cracks about it. And then when I got the green flag I out-pulled about half of the 12 trucks that pulled before me before I broke an axle. :D
