After having the BFG MT, GY MTR, Trxus, and BFG AT, I would go with the BFG MT in a second. I'm actually running the BFG MT and Trxus right now on both of my trucks.

For rocky and snowy Colorado I'd go with the MT/R. They really are not that good in mud but I find them almost as good in snow as tha ATs and in rocks they simply rock (pun intended). :D

They're also very good on road and overall seem to wear very well and last long.

I had a set of BFG/MT's on changed. I actually went with the Cooper Discoverer STT. The ride on the road is much better, a lot quieter and they do really well off road.

How old were your BFGs when you made the switch? Any brand of mud tire that has significant mileage on it will make a lot of road noise due to uneven wear, cupping, etc.

FWIW I run the Dunlop Radial Rover R/T. It's basically a commercial truck tire with a AT center and a MT shoulder. Very good snow/ice and good "Colorado" performance. As you know SCSL, Colorado trails can be broken down granite and rock. I found AT's work better for this. But, sometimes you need side lugs for soft stuff and snow. Not much mud except for spring runoff. Your choice.

Beachrover, I have Cooper Stt on mine. One sustained sidewall damage and needs replacing another I think age has to got ( years) so I'm changing soon, and Dunlop RT is my tire of choice.

Hi,

I can only speak from my experiences, and I think you may find an All Terrain a generally better fit for what you have described as your driving.

I am currently driving on BFG MTs (245/75 16") and find that it is less stable than on the all terrains.

Additionally, Last winter a group of us did a 13,000 km trip to the arctic. There were 4 Disco 1s and a RRC. I was on factory size ATs (Yokohama Geolander AT II) two discos were BFG MTs and the last was on MTRs. I felt much more stable than the others seem to feel.

Just my 0.02

I put 283/85/16 Dunlop Mud Rovers on my Disco I about 12,000 miles ago. I can't say enough good things about them. Living in CO and having a 50 mile commute one way, I can say they do great on the highway and in the city, not much noise at all. My wife and I can have a conversation, even with the windows down. In the snow, they have done great. I've plowed through everything I've come up against (except a snow drift that I approached too slow, and buried to the frame). On trails, they've been great as well. I've been on Jenny Creek, Red Cone, Webster, Radical Hill, Bill Moore, Lefthand Canyon, Loch Lommond, MIddle St. Vrain and Coney Flats (If you know the trails) and I have had absolutlely no issues with traction or damage.

The price was pretty good too. $109 each mounted and balanced at Discount Tire. Unless I come into a ton of money and can afford BFG MT's, I'm going to stick with the Mud Rovers.

If you are looking for an AT I would either go with the BGF AT or Nitto Terra Grapplers. I had the AT's on my 90 and I loved them. They preformed in every type of terrain better just as good as MTR's. Tonight I went wheeling in my stock D2 with the Nittos on them and ran a a good little trail and they preformed extremely well. Probably just as good as my BFG AT's. I highly recommend them. You might also want to try out the Nitto Mud Grapplers. They just came out in a 33x11.50R16 size and from what I have seen of them they are every good tires.

But like I originally said I like the TrXus MT's better then MTR's, BGF AT/MT's, and Terra Grapplers. Its really is a nice tire that provides overall great performance. I also like SSR's a lot. I almost decided to run a small tire just so I could have them but decided I really wanted something bigger for my RRC and did not go with them. But they are very nice tires.

Now I haven't seen anybody mention my favorite, the Interco Special Service Super Swamper at 34x9! Um-um-um what a scary tire in the wet on pavement, noisy, and nowhere near round! But she gets around alright off the road!
