Yes, another CDL install question - '04 shifter

I've searched here and elsewhere and have not seen exactly this question discussed.

I bought a transfer case shifter out of an '04 Disco from a salvage yard about an hour away to install in my '99 DII. My question is about the interlock solenoid on the '04 shifter.

I've seen other writeups and threads saying you can remove the solenoid because the one on the '04 shifter duplicates the function of the one installed on the '99 t-case.

It looks to me like I must remove it because if it is not connected to the IDM it will prevent operation of the hi-lo. Is that correct?

Also, what kind of Dremel attachment should I use to enlarge the hole in the cover plate?

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask about the the elusive diagram label that mounts on the console in front of the TC shifter on the '04. The guy at the salvage yard said they were not able to remove it without ruining it.

Has anyone come up with a part number to order an new one? All I have seen and read is that they are not available, but that info may be stale.

What are the pros and cons of removing the solenoid in the t-case instead of removing the one in the shifter? Does the shifter solenoid plug in to the wiring harness with the same connector as the t-case solenoid?

When I did my '04 CDL install, I just used a grinder to remove the part of the solenoid that sticks out.

There's no part number for that plaque. The one Justin sells is from the Ashcroft CDL kit. Looks close but isn't exactly the same IIRC, but it would work fine. I was thinking at some point to replace the center console with one from an '04 to get the plaque.

Okay guys, I finally got around to installing the '04 transfer case shifter this weekend.

The solenoid was easy. I removed the sealing material (similar to silicone caulk) and then the snap ring. No big deal.

Overall the job took longer than I thought it would and there was somewhat more wrestling with the parts than I expected, but nothing serious.

I did as others recommended and used pan head, Phillips sheet metal screws to secure the mounting plate to which the two shifters are attached. I was surprised by how big the rivet holes were, but #14x3/4 screws seemed to work fine.

While I had the console out I also replaced the original "cigar lighter" with a conventional size lighter from NAPA so that accessories like the XM Radio Sky Dock will fit and work appropriately.

The transfer case shifter works flawlessly as installed.
