I'm headed up to Cape Cod and will be getting the oversand permit and wondering should I run in 4H with CDL locked or 4L without it locked. I'm getting new BFG A/T T/A KO's and will air down to 10-15 psi.

#2 I think my cruise control isn't working. I engage the master switch and hit set but nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing ??

#3 My disco is a 97. Are the air bags still good or do they need to be recharge or something ??

Stay tuned for more...........

Pete, Pete, Pete...we're not the Antichrist...actually Tom IS the Antichrist but that's a different story. ;)

There is a very common fault on the DI's that you will find a detailed instruction on by using the search function. I'll give ya a hint...11 year old truck components = dried rotten vacuum lines = no cruise. I'll lay a 5 spot that is your problem.

Now go learn how to use the search button ya friggin newb!!! :)

If you're in sand I would keep the CDL locked and maybe low depending if they have dunes or not. You can always switch from the two w/o worries if need to.

I'd run low lock. Unless your going fast enough to need high range.

In the sand 10-15# will be fine, especially if you have rover alloys. They have a mean inner bead thats pretty hard to break. Plus 10 # is still pretty secure, especially if your not on rocks. Make sure your spare is in good shape just in case.

The rubber vacuum lines that power your cruise control are most likely cracked. Start at the throttle body and check condition and security of the lines going back to the firewall and wherever else they go. I just cut a dryrotted inch off mine and reconnected, works great!

Your airbags are fine. If you have an SRS light you have to take it to the dealer and get it checked (short awnser) or come to grips with the fact that they just might not work. You are talking about the airbags in the dash, right?

And the proponents of the search function... you don't like repeating yourself or awnsering questions that have been gone over 1000's of times. Is it a waste of your time? Theres only about 30 posts today, and 10 since he posted. It's not like this forum is over-run with traffic. It would waste less of your time if you simply ignored his post and he got no help, learned to use and love the search function on his own, or met google and left Discoweb forever because of all the cranky farts in here.

:fuckoff:

Jen offered up the most polite "Use the search feature" I have ever seen. Better yet send him over to that nice friendly pirate4x4 website. They are so much more cuddly over there:rolleyes:

All I will say is I HAVE USED search function but what I have found(in some cases) is they don't always work. Maybe it's just me. Plus I think it cool when people respond to my posts :newbie: :smilelol:

Thanks kbeefy.

Where on Cape Cod are you going on sand? Nausset Beach? I'd just leave it in 4H and lock the CDL (probably don't even need to do that). Lower the tires to 15# and call it good. If you get stuck, try 4L and/or lower the tire pressure.

The sand trails up there aren't really that much to traverse (and you can't go off trail); I took my 2WD Suburban once and only got "stuck" twice in a week (getting a couple of people to push was all it took to get unstuck).

When I towed my Jeep out there (don't throw rocks), I just left it in 2WD unless I saw a really soft patch of sand or started to get bogged down, then I put it in 4H. Rarely, did I ever need 4L.

North Truro. I plan on heading out to Race Pt. light and surrounding area. They have a lot of the orv area shut down right now but hoping they open it up tomorrow. I hear Fridays are the days the open/close areas. Someone hit a bird and they bird lovers went nuts. Stinking piping plovers.

You are the reason why good sites get ruined.

And by the way, it is just you....search works if you put half a thought into what you are searching for.

Yeah, the piping plovers suck ass...

The past few years the ORV on Nausset has been shut down for 4-6 weeks during July because there was 1 or 2 (Yes, 1 or 2) nests. I had been going to CC for about 13 years (1st/2nd week of Aug). This year is the first I'm not going. Nausset beach got washed over and a breach (see pic) cut it in 1/2. Last summer the number of ORVs allowed was drastically reduced and in order to get on the beach we were leaving our house ~7am. Also, our friend's cabin got taken out this past winter as the cut widened.:( The mouth of Chatham Bay has been filling in with sand over the past few years; once this cut formed it's now the entrance for the tides to go in/out.

In the picture of the cut, you see his house (second from the cut, to the right). The next picture shows how the water washed away the protective dune (it was about 20 ft high (above the first floor windows), and wrapped around the viewable side and the ocean side (where the posts for the deck aren't touching). The next photo is a week later, just before he had it torn down. The cabin had been in his family for over 50 years; it was destroyed in the "Perfect Storm" and he rebuilt it (it was the only one of about a dozen cabins in that camp to get destroyed). But not this time....there's nowhere to build. It's now ocean.

The ocean is a very powerful force.
