Roverchic - con carry permit here in N.VA is 50 bucks.. You have to take a gun safety class though and that can run you anywhere from 50-150 dollars..
It's funny though that Ron mentioned the "check the building for signs".. You know that all the places I go around here only one place has a sign on it saying no firearms allowed and that is Galyans Sporting goods store in Reston aside from the Court Houses and schools ( even the schools you can carry it unloaded.. Though every private place has the right to ask you to leave.
You can however, walk around all you want with your gun in plain view.. You'll get harassed I'm sure but, legally your OK. I have done this a few times when I go to the gun range and you would not believe the looks that you get from people.. Needless to say every one is in a hurry to get out of your way..
As for Freddie's question about why I voted for Bush... I posted this link before and I'll post it again.. http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/legislative/a_three_sections_with_teasers/votes.htm
Look at the section called "Roll Call Tables" it has the all the votes on bills since 1989 and if you dig around in them ( ya it's not easy and kinda confusing ) you can find out info on all the bills and their riders.. You can also see how each Senator voted on it.. Looking at Kerry's voting record and listening to what he has been telling people for the last ten years especially during his campaign I have found him to be nothing but a liar telling people what he thinks they want to hear. I will say that he is one hell of a great speaker and word smith.. He has some of the best speech writers I have ever heard.. So I can see how it is easy for him to dupe people into believing him.. However, I have been indirectly involved in politics here due to my wife's job so I'm used to the way these folks work and I'm automatically suspicious when I start to hear things that just don't sound right to me so I go and look them up.
There are a few other things as well that I didn't like...
Gay Marriages... I'm just not down with that.. I don't think that it's OK..
Abortion.... Ya, there's a few reasons that I can see having one.. Rapes, Health risks, and such... But, I don't think that it's right to have one just cause some girl got drunk or sweet talked into spreading her legs open.
Jobs... Well lets face it not all of these jobs were lost cause of things that Bush did.. They were on their way out regardless of who was in office... Dot Com and the Telecom companies tossed hundreds of thousands of people on the streets in the last few years which made up a large portion of the unemployed numbers.. At least where I live.. I was one of them.. That bubble was bursting one way or the other.. No matter what people say the economy is getting better.. That is some thing that Bush did help in doing.
I'm not a church goer and I don't even believe in god, but, I do see a lack of morals and values in this country and it just keeps getting worse.. Things have gotten too out in the open and too liberal.. Take TV for instance.. I have an 19 month old daughter and I can only really watch 3 TV stations out of the 300 that I have.. Nogg, Disney, and Food Network and even Nogg and Disney only during the day.. Every thing else is filled with violence, drugs, sex, and a whole list of other things that my little girl is just too young for.. It's not just TV though.. It's every where. It's pretty sad when we are out front playing in the yard and some of the 4-5 year olds that live in this neighborhood come up and want to play with her and they are cursing left and right.. Even more then me when I get pissed off.. Even worse is that these kids parents aren't even around.. 4-5 year olds running around all day with no one even watching them.. No wonder we have such a high crime rate and such low education scores.. And I live in a county (Fairfax) that is considered to have one of the highest number of educated kids according to the test scores. I have gone up to a couple of them and asked them why their kids are running around the neighborhood with no one watching them... You know what their answer was? Don't tell me how to raise my kids... To which I reply if you were raising you kids I wouldn't be over here. When I heard what Bill Cosby said to folks I almost fell out of my chair... Finally someone in the public eye said some thing that people really needed to hear..
I think that this country in some respect needs to go back in time a little.... Can bush fix the worlds issues, no, I know he can't.. Can he make the US and some of the world a little better.. Sure he can.. But, he needs help.. I'm not just talking about the House and Senate either.. I'm talking about you, me, your kids, your neighbors.. We all are in it weather you like it or not..
I see things in this country and I just don't get it.. I really don't..
Anyway.. I have many other reasons as to why I feel the way that I do but, I'm not going to post some 30 page long book about it..
Though, I'm happy today because my wife still has her job.. Some thing I was worried about with this election. I'm also happy because I live in one of the best countries on this planet.. Ya it has it's issues just like all of them do.. But, it's home, and it's the only place I want to be..
