Hey just for regular driving around, what do most of you guys run your tire pressures at? LR recommends 26psi front and 36psi back or do you run 32psi all the way around? What's the reasoning for the staggered pressure to begin with? A PS: just installed some BFG ATs today...they look guuuuuud, and they're pretty quiet! |

LR's reasoning is the rear of a LR is heavier, or at least that's what I've always been told. You really just have to experiment. I've settled in to about 36psi in the front and 42psi in the rear. Not an exact science but I've just adjusted until it feels right. Different tire sizes, vehicle setup, tread patterns, etc. may make a difference. IMO though, I wouldn't run 26psi up front, I'd go higher. |

Hi Alan, So you went for the BFG's eh? Good choice. Check the sidewall for the load figure. Check your original tires and compare. If they load and pressure figure are the same or very close, run the pressure you run. If the BFG carries less load or same load at higher pressure you will have to run more. If it carries more or at less pressure you will have to run less. Post the figures and we can figure it out. You can also try the chalk line method to get the pressure. |

Hey Milan, Yup, got the BFGs. I can't believe how smooth the handling is but it could be because my old tires were old (very little tread left) and apparently badly cupped (I guess the previous owner - a LR exec - never did tire rotations) so anything compared to that feels smooth. Steering felt really stiff before but when I picked up my truck yesterday, steering was very smooth and it's dang quiet! Before, I always heard this whiney whirring sound which at the time, I didn't know any better. The engine sounded different and behaved differently so I wasn't sure what was normal for a Disco. The tires came with the truck and I never really thought much about it. When I've taken it off road, it's always gotten through the mud, ditches, hills, etc so I had no basis of comparison. Today, I've done a lot of driving and am amazed at how smooth the ride feels and steering doesn't feel stiff like it did before. Just firm. Thanks for the tip. The old tires were Michelin 4x4 XPC tires. Does that help? I don't have them anymore but the service description was 105H or 2039lbs @ 50psi and max speed rating of 210km/hr. The BFGs are 104Q or 1985lbs @ 50psi and max speed of 160km/hr. A |

So, if my calcs are correct, you chouls run 2.7% more air pressure. This equals to roughly .7 and .9 psi for the f&r tires respectivvely. So I say run 27 and 37 and don't worry about it. Glad you like the AT's so much. Just wait till first real snow. |
