I have a 96 Disco. I 've been having 2 electrical/loss of power issues. First, there are times when I go to start the truck and there is no power(its like the battery is completely dead and there's a loss of power) but a few minutes or hours later the truck starts right up. Secondly, after i start the truck and pull slowly out of the driveway it's starting to stall. Now, I just had it seriviced at a LR dealership. They said my multifunction unit is fine, my alternator is ok, but I they did have to replace the fuse box. Any advise? |

Just some ideas, nothing positive here: 1) Intermittant contact in the ignition switch. I am assuming that this vehicle was bought used, or that another driver has about four or more sets of keys all linked together like my wife does. This over time will wear the switch contacts away from one another. 2) Stalling can be a sign of the fuel pump having problems. My old 94 had a lead come loose from the pump; two minutes of resoldering and good as new. Check by listening for the low noise of the pump running. The relay is on the right hand side on the outside wall, and this could cause a similar problem. The stalling could be related to an ignition switch problem as well. I would ask the service technician why they replaced the fuse box. That could be a clue to the problem. I hope that this is of some help. Bill M. |

With the help of Palm Beach Motorcars, I just recently solved my electrical gremlin. I too had intermitent power losses to starter, radio, clock, speedometer. Turned out that the connector on the wire running from the positive post of the battery to the fuse box under hood had corroded. It might be worth checking. I'd check and clean the stepper motor for the stall. |

When it acts up have you ever checked the resting voltage of the battery? I added a compass with voltmeter to mine as I've been fighting dead battery for 8 mos. Did a new battery. 2 mos later same thing. Came to Discoweb and advice was alternator had bad diode. Had it rebuilt. 2 mos later same problem. Alternator had a warranty so rebuild guy says bad battery. Sure nuff, Autozone replaces and 2 mos later out of the blue the battery goes dead over a few hours. Best recent invention is the little drycell booster battery I carry. My wife and I call it a defibralator (shock paddles for heart attack victims). Try battery or alternator if voltage is below 11 volts resting. |

I'm still fighting this. I guess I'm going under to battle ground leads. I added a compass/voltmeter that I really like. Some people had asked for posts of pics. If interested in particulars let me know. Anyone tell me how to insert jpg files? |
