I asked about this last week, and was told Autozone will do it for free. I went there and they told me I have an OBDI plug in, not the OBDII, so his code reader would not plug in. I have a 96 Discovery, is this correct? I thought 96 and up where all OBDII compliant. What can I do to reset it? Pull the battery? thanks, Scott |

no. pulling the battery is not your solution. you need to find what is causing the light to come on first and doing that 'trick' is not going to help your '96. true. '96 and up ARE OBD II. either your truck is not a true '96 or Autozone has their head up their asses. if the light really bugs you try some electrical tape. haha |

I did have the code read already at the local shop, and they told me it was the O2 sensor and thermostat. I replaced the sensor that was bad (I hope) and the 'stat. So, I was hoping the light would go out over time or I could reset and see if it came back on. Is there OBDI on the 95's? my 96 has a date of 12/95? so maybe that is why autozone could do it? scott |

nope. you certainly have a '96. mine was built before yours and i am OBD II. yes....95's are OBD I. all cars/trucks built in '96 are OBD II complient. well on a '96 you have 4 O2 sensors. 2 in front of the cats and 2 behind them. how many miles do you have on your truck? where did you get the O2 sensors? best to go to www.spanishtrailrovers.com and print out the page with all the code read outs. put in your glove box for future use. if the problem is certainly fixed the light will go out after the truck has completed one 'cycle'. or just have it reset. it will not necessarily just go off after the problem is fixed. |

thanks for the link Garrett, I have 87k on my 96. I replaced both left O2 sensors, I got them at www.oxygensensors.com & they looked exactly like the original ones, even had the same 'brand' on the side, tdk or something like that. I wonder why autozone couldn't read it. I was out in the parking lot with the guy trying to plug the darn thing in. He said it looked like a GM plug in..........maybe I'll go to another autozone in town and check it out. scott |

well they are all essentially the same plug in. yeah just as long as you did not go to the dealer and get hosed for $150 a piece. they can be had for about $75 or so elsewhere. same damn plug. try somewhere else. pep boys and just about any legit garage has the tool to do it. that is about the life of an O2 sensor. eventually they do 'wear' out from heat and need to be replaced. truck might start using more fuel or running too lean and this is the time to replace them. might have to do the others as well. |

I noticed the Disco shop manual had a torque setting for the O2 sensor (something like 35 fps) Do I really need to torque them, or just screw them in with some anti sieze until they are tight? I wouldn't want to screw up some little expensive sensor! scott |
