I need some help with some tranny problems. I was trying to climb a small asphalt hill (urban 4-wheeling) and when I got crossed up, I went to lock the differential. The diff lock has always engaged a little slow (I figured it was lack of use - I've only had this '98 for about 4 months - the prior owner was in California) but this time I was slowly rolling backwards - then I hear a loud "clunk" - I figure it had engaged and tried to go up the hill again - and I had no power at all to the wheels. I checked to make sure I hadn't just knocked the transfer case into neutral - nope it was in 4 hi still - so I put the transmission in neutral and then I try 4-lo > still no power. I shift back to 4-hi and put the transmission in 1st gear > IT WORKS! But now, the problem is, I have to start out in 1st gear. If I have the gear selector in any other gear - it won't go! Any ideas??? I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow - but thought I might see if the almighty Discoweb gurus had any ideas also! HELP - my wifes going to kill me if I need to put a whole new transmission in! TIA Jason [email protected] |
