300Tdi supposedly.
Depending on what you are after the later 300TDi have electric throttle and a bit more power.

No,
all the tdi's have a mechanical injection pump and throttle. Electricially regulated is just the exhaust gas recirculation valve.
The 300tdi is a bit quieter and refined (not that I noticed) and its cambelt is easier to change.
But the differences are not important enough to decide for one or another.
The bit more power is easily equalled by tweaking the injection pump a little. |

Both engines are 2.5 Turbos. The 300, as anon says is more refined. There is a difference between the Disco version and the Defender version. The disco is a "fly by wire" throttle where the Defender is mechanical. I am not sure with the 300 but turbo placement is different between the Disco.Def 200 TDIs. |

i heard that the 200 tend to go through head gaskets... the 300 needs the cam belt pully upgrade kit when belt is changed.... other than that the 300 is only quieter because it comes with a rubber mat on the top of the rocker cover. mine (300 tdi) tends to drink a tiny bit more fuel than my mates 200, but go's much better. As for the complete car.... well.. the 300 is far nicer to drive and does have a bit more go to it.
300 = interior redesign, anti roll bar etc.. headlight/indicator redesign. There's quite a bit of difference.
Disco gearbox is supposed to have a different ratio than defender, but i'm not sure. |

Nope. Some of the disco 300TDi discos have a electronic throttle.

Ron is right, some of the last TDI300 w/automatic gearbox. Power was 10 HP increased.
