Saw your post on 'how far on tank... That rubber hose you 'disco-nected' is the vacuum advance line-no wonder you get 9 mpg! And no, it doesn't start any better with or without it. You're imagining... Engine vacuum 'advances' the timimg setting, to develope more power for any throttle position above say, 1400 rpm. The effect increases linearly; noticed in the 2000-up range. So as YOU drive most anywhere, you have retarded ignition curve, leading to inefficient combustion and larger throttle positions, burning lottsa' fuel. Reconnect it and restore power. Like, 25-40 hp, IF your vac unit is functioning. Has it failed?-probably; you test by pulling a vacuum against it via your mouth. If you get wind passing, the unit leaks-replace it $90.00USD,most sources. $Dealer is $240+/Canadian. No wind, then it's probably fine. Engine idling- draw vacuum, idle will go up a little-noticeable barely. This age and mileage, likely needs replaced. Mine did @ 75k mi.... Happy Rovering-doug |

Hey, Doug Just saw your post , Thanks I didn't know that about the hose. It was like that when I got it . The Repair guy had put a small bolt in the end of the hose to plug it off . I did reconnect it and it did run fine for a while then one day , I tried to start the engine and it just kept turning over and wouldn't start. I reconnected the hose and it has worked fine ever since. Maybe it was just a coincidence. I'll reconnect it and see if it happens again , and look into doing a test on the unit. Thanks again for the usefull info. I love this site ! |
