The dealer tells me I need a new Purge valve in my emissions system for $360.00 parts and labor!!

1) What is this?

2) Can I do it cheaper myself getting parts through somebody here on the Discoweb??

Please let me know ASAP as I need to let the dealer know.

Thanks in Advance,
Garrett

It's the computer controlled valve that lets the engine suck gasoline vapors out of the charcoal canister under certain throttle conditions. Usually you can fix the "problem" by simply unplugging the electrical connection.

I would assume that it is a no-brainer to replace, and that you could get the valve off of a truck that was being patred out.

Thanks Randall!

Anyone else know where I could get this part cheap or if it is hard to do?? Randall has been a big help but I just want to make sure before I call the dealer and tell them not to fix it.

I just had mine replaced by the dealer for about the same money. I was charged 137.94 for the purge valve ane 178.50 in labor. My a** still hurts. I could take out the old valve and install a new one in less than 5 minutes. Just buy a new one and put it in yourself, the valve is the large black coffee can looking thing on the passinger fender. Your fuel mileage should increase when you get it fixed.

Thank you very much!! This is what I was looking for. I will do it myself and save money and apparently my a** from hurting.

I think Nathan is out of town. I talked with him last week to put an order in and it sounded like he was traveling and taking care of bussiness when he could.

He must be b/c I haven't been able to get an answer yet.

Anyone else ever have to replace this before?? What does this affect?

My dealer gave me the part #ESR4017 and called it the purge valve.
