I am trying to install a new shifter surround in my disco series one, and I need to know how the heck to get the dang gear shifter knob off so i can lift the older surround off! |

Pry out the dimpled insert on the top of the shifter. In there will be a wierd circlip type thing that operates the "cam" thumb button, Below that is some big ole nut that unscrews, then just take off the handle. The rest should be fairly obvious with some gentle pushing and pulling.
