Anyone have any advice on how to easily remove door panels without damaging the panel or the fasteners? Also, I am missing the "pocket" on the rear door on my 96 D1, does anybody know where I could find a replacement without paying dealer prices? |

I'm thinking about taking a stiff putty knife and cutting a slot in the center that will accomodate the width of the fastener and try to pry them off. Before I do this, I want to make sure that I am not going to royally screw up my panels. |

Hi, Steve. While working on my driver's window regulator I removed / installed the pannel probably four times. I used a standard 2" wide puddy knife as my tool. I pulled gently on the pannel with my fingertips until I located a clip, then worked it with the knife. I did break three of the clips over the various removals but I think it's mostly because I did it so many times. There are enough clips on the pannel to still hold it tight. You can buy an actual pannel-removal-tool from most auto parts stores, and I believe the clips are pretty easy to replace as well if you do snap one. Yeah, I bought the removal tool at pepboys. I think it was about $7 but I also think it was worth it. The first time I removed teh rear door panel, I broke about 7 clips, at at LR prices, those damn things cost around $2 each. Since I got the tool, I haven't broken a single clip. |

I headed over to my local auto parts store and picked up the tool, it was under $6. Thanks for the advice |
