Guys, I'm out of town and my wife is telling me the blades are breaking apart on her as she is driving in the rain. The dealer is quoting her close to $100.00 to install new blades!!! C'mon, I gotta protect the misses, don't want her getting nailed unless it's by me!!! |

R22 Tech? As in the little Helicopter? Dude, the 99 D2 blades are in most of your major parts stores. Have your wife go in and wink at the Parts guy and the blades will be installed for free. I want to know what dealer would charge your wife $100 for this task. That's crap!!! I still by my blades at LR dealers for my '00 D2 and they cost $15 a piece. Paul '00 pig |

One Hundred Bucks???? Man, Land Rover really is LUXURY! Head down to your local Pep Boys and buy yourself some Bosch wiper blades. They should cost you about $30. It's pretty easy to install them yourself. |

The DII blades aren't the same as the DI blades. They are a pain in the ass and I have heard several dealers quote anywhere from $65 - $100 to replace the set. I have a 99' DII and no auto store has a replacement blade listed. You can buy an appropriate length refill (just the rubber but not the whole assembly) and make it fit but you usually have to use pliers, etc to deform/reform the stock wiper arm. See my previous post. ../17/8219.html"#444444"> |

Rick, My recent experience trying to get blades for my 2001 DII is just like yours. I called John at EE a few weeks ago and he told me they don't carry them, and then was nice enough to talk with my husband about trying to fit some Autozone blades until I could get the LR blades ordered. Yes, David was able to cram the new rubber into the old metal mounts, but clearly that's a stop-gap move until the real deal gets here. They don't wipe like they should and they look like they could pop out anytime. I called Nathan at Discount Rovers and my assemblies should be here any day. He quoted me approximately $12.00 each. I understand the DI blades are not such a hassle and are easily replaced at most autoparts stores, but for the DII it looks like genuine is the only way to go. Let me know if you discover anything different. Karen |

Karen, I have been around and around this before. I have come across listings for '99 D2 blades at autoparts stores, but nothing for '00 and up. Typo in the book or not, it's a PITA! $12 is a good price from Nathan. I am just alarmed that some in Atlanta would charge R22's wife $100. My God, it takes a whole 3 minutes to swap them out. That tech needs a little chat from some owners. Paul '00 pig |

Wow 15 comments on a thread about wiper blades. And I actually read all of them! Now that we have that urgent matter can we please resolve the small matter regarding the middle east? |

The problems in the middle-east are often rooted in the mis-directed anger of pissed off LR owners trying to get parts for the trucks. I think the U.N. did a case study on it about 3 years ago. Rick |

Rick, I was part of that very study. Unfortunately because the U.N. officials use Defender 110's they were deemed just asa hostile as us! Gregg |

So you can see how the problem spreads. It's all based on dealership run around. |

Paul, Are you sure that you saw listings for '99 D2 wiper blades? I have seen them everywhere for model year '99 but only for the D1 not the D2. '99 is a weird model year because it was half D1s and half D2s. If they have blades that supposedly fit a '99 D2, they would also fit the '00 D2. Maybe someone has updated their product line, I will look around again. Rick |

I put new blades on over a year ago here in Phx. Hadn't even use them once when I realized they need to be replaced again. I think I'll keep them in the glove box and install them if it rains... |

quick release wiper blades, yet another must have mod. on the way back from Sedona a couple weeks ago I hit a thunderstorm...damn driver's side wiper arm retaining nut had come loose so only passenger side arm worked. I'm on the highway where it's posted 75mph, I'm only doing 55 because of the roto vibes (replaced one on the trail but roached the spare too), my windshield is cracked, passenger wiper is only one working, we're hungover and haven't showered in 3 days, and the damn rear endcaps are flapping in the breeze. Junk yard dog all the way...... |

damn trailer trash!! got 'em in AZ too. sounds like you need a bad exhaust or manifold leak to complete the look and sound. ps: how do you fit those wipers in your glove box? haha |

LOL.... I was driving around in my old Jeep, back when I was a broke grad student, and a retaining pin on my wiper arm broke.... it let the inner arm flop around, thus, as the main arm moved back and forth over the windshield, the wiper-blade would rotate around at wild angles. I pulled a plastic Wal-Mart bag out of the back, pulled one of the handles off of the bag, and tied it around the wiper arm to splint the two pieces together.... it's STILL like that, to this day..... -L |

Rick, It could have been a typo or that I just read it wrong. I have always gone to the dealer for my $15 blades. Gregg, I hate to admit it, but the last time I was in the Middle East, I drove a Land Cruiser. Paul '00 pig |

No blades at any of the auto parts stores. Called L.R. and paid by c.c. over the phone, $32, wife picked up blades, called me up, said she installed them in less than 5 minutes with a flathead screwdriver. Dealers=Stealers...what a joke! |

I've got a 2001 DII, and I've used Trico Refils #45-205 (Narrow Blade Refills). I bought them at a local 'Advance Auto Parts' store. These work for the front wipers. -Tommy |

r22tech, Dude - ya gotta start using you name - or at least one that is made up I have had this same pain in the ass on D2 blades. It really sucks because nothing but LR Original fits quite right. I pay about the same as you did for the blades through the dealer - which is high. Still - the LR D2 blades install with less hassle then any other blade I have installed. My three year old could uninstall and reinstall them in less than 10 minutes. I am surprised the dealer wanted a full hour of time to install these blades. Talk about a rip! Curtis |
