Day 8: February 21, 2001

Much to Mickey’s chagrin, the oil pan heater did not survive the night. And our fluffy breakfast waitress informed the group that this last night was the coldest so far this winter. Actually, it seems the locals tell us everyday is the coldest. This worried some, but, the grey disco proved her mettle and started after a short complaint.. Next on the agenda was our pilgrimage on to James Bay.

Here, we all (including the Discos) frolicked in bone chilling cold. We have the pictures to prove it! After we all have had our fun and my digital camera had frozen stiff taking Cindy’s picture we got on the road to Nemaska.

The type of driving we are doing is best described as "endurance" by both driver, co-driver, and machine. The road is ice and snow with treacherous curves every few moments. "Oncoming" is transmitted by the lead disco when a approaching vehicle is spotted. With this warning, the convoy slows somewhat and moves to the right. On the road today we encountered fewer than ten vehicles. Travelling the center is the norm as the edges are soft and fluffy with virgin snow.

The views are panoramic at every turn. After a week of driving we are still anxious to see what is around the next bend.

After being on the road 8 hours, we know we are close to our destination. We are so close that we speed by rather large road signs neglecting to read them.

It’s the Land Rover thing to do." The GPS says we are there so we will just keep driving. Shortly we decide the LR thing to do, after consulting all maps, GPSs and Shamans is to call the motel. We get there and have a gourmet dinner by anyone’s standards. Wonderful seafood soup, top quality steak in a scrumptious sauce, hot blueberry or cherry pie and maple sugar pie cake. Truly Wonderful Another great day. What could be better than being here, with friends, and our Land Rovers, As written on "BIG Blue’s" back window "take the road less traveled". Fluffy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
