Hi all:
Just wondering if someone can give me a good idea of what is involved in such a swap on a 1994 LWB. I have found some cheap Discovery drivetrains and am curious (R380 transmission and LT230 case). I know what is involved with the LT230 swap, but if I jsut get the pedals and shifters from a discovery shouldn't the R380 be an easy swap? Do I also need to swap ECUs or will the engine not care about the transmission difference?

Thanks in advance.

I'd think you'd be better off with the linkages and such from a grey market manual RRC (Try Paul Grant as I know he recently had one) though there are others that may know more about it. That'd be an interesting conversion...

Im willing to bet that on a 95 RRC you could easily swap in a D1 manual setup. I would think it would work on a 94 and below but the center console would need some hacking. I also wonder about the clutch MC and how it would fit near the ABS stuff. Otherwise I would think it would bolt in more or less.

I thought about doing it to my 91 but the money involved talked me out of it... At least until the auto box blows up.

I'll try rounding up all the parts. Somebody told me a resistor or the ECU need to be changed so it idles properly. Is that true?

Do you have any more info? The reason I bring this back from the dead is the motor in my '95 RRC is knocking and was planning on converting to an lt230/r380 from a complete running '95 Disco donor truck I picked up. Along with the motor of course.

its a pipe dream of mine to do it to my 92 when the right D1 donor comes along. In fact, just got done working on an 87 RRC with a defenders 5 speed in it. center console base is intact, but drive selector area cut out to make way for lever movement. he's still running the 13CUX ECU on a 4.2 motor and it runs great!

I'm doing it in an RRC pretty much right now. It's tight, but doable if you get all the parts from the donor.

to keep the check engine lamp from giving you a faulty park/neutral switch code and supposedly makes the idle speed not dependent on road speed, but it didnt seem to change that.
