How many people have actually been stranded due to DII electrical problems?

Like the thread title says...

If a crankshaft sensor counts, then yes. Otherwise no. My DII has been a great vehicle.
D1's also have crank sensors and I have seen them give D1 drivers fits. Since this is not unique to the D2 it should be discounted.

I have had a problem with my D2 that I never had with my D1, though maybe not what you asking. My old D1 had the door-lock buttons on a separate fob, not on the actual door key, but the D2 has the buttons on the key itself. Occasionally, when inserting the key into the ignition, I accidently push the button, locking the door before turning the key. This causes the ignition to lock-up, thereby preventing the engine from starting. It ususlly takes me a few tries to remember to unlock the door before I can start the engine. Otherwise, I have not been stranded by any electrical problems; in fact, not with the old D1, either.

Does that count? :D

I learned years ago, that if you carry a simple tool kit in the car, a jumpsuit to wear, jumper cable, hand cleaner, and a first aid kit, your car will never break down.

Course I've learned to also have a fire extinguisher, jumper cables, a snatch strap, and a can of fix-a-flat with a small compressor. Not for me, but to help others.

thats what I do and never have had any problems other than the front cover gasket failing and dumping all of the coolant into the oil pan.
but thats not electrical.... I was however forced to sit outside a college sorority house for 2 hrs waiting for a flatbead...

I once got the M and S lights flashing at random - turned her off and back on and it went away. Also get the "three amigos" a lot over the last year or so...but luckily Ive never been stranded. Another good question to ask might be - whats the farthest you ever been away from some type of civilization in your Rover (if it were to break down). Mine would probably be 60+ miles in Utah...that would be a long hike out...

Never stranded, but we had a CKP going bad and the truck wouldn't start. So we went into a pub, had a pint and a pizza, came back out and it started and got us home, only then to completely fail. Had to be towed to the dealer (under warranty) for a new CKP.

THis was many, many moons ago, probably less than 25K miles on the truck at the time.

DiscoDame, drsus, flyingasics, you all say you've been stranded, let's hear the reasons why. This is a scientific study now.

Never mind drsus, from your profile you don't even own a D2, you should go over to PT's shop and drink his used antifreeze for him.

Stranded twice, both due to water though...

First one was about 4 years ago, going through a deep water pit in the Pine Barrens w/ an almost stock Rover.. Killed the MAFS and truck would not start for anything.. didn't hydrolock thankfully.. I had to get towed out of the woods by another disco, then towed home... brought it to a dealership that time.

2nd time, more deep water, but in Canada... had it up to the windshield under water.. stranded for 2 hours while we worked on the truck.. changed spark plugs, pulled all ECUs, got water out, let them dry, cleaned MAFS, etc.. after about 2 hours, it turned over, wouldn't maintain idle unless I was on the pedal... but I was able to crawl out of the hydrolines we were in and let it dry out..

Once again, this isn't D2 specific. I've seen D1's die from the same issues. Discounted.

Mine is dead right now..... all sorts of electrical issues..... may have something to do with the motor being in the back of an 18 wheeler trailer on it's way to Nebraska as I type though?

Sorry, I just had to comment here as this thread is giving me quite a chuckle as i sit home sicker than a dog. Ugg.

Carry on.

never stranded, but I have replaced 2 alternators because of being in water deep enough to wash the windshield...didn't shit the bed until a week or 2 later...I found electrical tape is a very useful tool in the removal of the christmas tree on the dash

Got stranded a couple of times: 1) battery/alternator and 2) CKP sensor. battery was at home, CKP was at work.

The bat/alt could have happened on any truck/vehicle. The CKP, D1 or D2.

So far I'm thinking that the whole, "Don't get a D2 because the electronics will strand you" argument has proven to be bullshit.

My D2 is the only one of my trucks that's actually never left me stranded, and we have had it since it was new.
My old RRC left me on the side of the road or in a parking lot waiting for a tow several times the first year I had it, once in the front parking lot at the dealership when I stopped to get some parts:smilelol: . Eventually I got it all sorted out and didn't have any more problems with it. It was the TPS and the ignition module with it.
And once my D90 blew one of the main fuses under the hood (not in the normal fuse box) and when I checked them they appeared to be fine. But it turned out that's what it was, it took the tech at the shop a while to find the problem (they all looked good from the top, but upon closer inspection one of them was blown).

But I've never had any problems (electrical problems that is) with the D2, just lots of lights on the dash...

No survey answer for not being stranded and not having any lights on the dash.

However, my horn and cruise control buttons don't work so something must be wrong with the steering wheel circuitry. :(

X2

Whoops, forgot about the damn SLS. But I converted to coils, so it's not an issue anymore. Other than that, never stranded and never had the 3 amigos.
