I did buy it from Houston

That statement would hold true if you had said "I did buy it from Brownsville, TX". Gotta be a little closer to the border for that vs Houston.

If you have time you can remove and tear down the XYZ switch and clean it with some brake clean (just gotta drill out some rivets). My 04 had one XYZ fault when I first bought it, but after looking into it my battery cables were extremely dirty and causing a poor connection. Since I cleaned the battery terminals and cables it hasn't returned.

If you have not done so then clean your battery posts and the battery cable terminals - a bad connection will give you the M & S lights and limp mode. It hit me a couple of times until I did that.

That was my first thought, that the ground had come loose, but both are clean, corrosive free, and tighter than a 13 yr old.

My instinct says xyz.

Remove the the terminals and clean them with sand paper - you may be surprised. I had installed a new battery and everything looked clean, then got the M&S problem. Some sand paper was all it needed. There was about a 4V drop between the battery post and the cable - go figure.

I will do that this am. I remember when I first bought it, I had M and S, then we replaced the terminals and cleaned it all up. M and S went away until this trip. So I will pick up some sand paper and give it a cleaning. Going have oil changed before leaving Fairbanks.

Thanks for the help.

Wow. Sleeping in bed for first time in a week has me laaaaazzy this am. LOL I just want to go back to bed.....

I did luck out though with windshield wipers. I stopped at O'Reilly to get some sandpaper and took a shot with some wiper blades. Low and behold, one of the previous owners did the D1 wiper arm swap!!!! So I now have fresh wipers. My wipers were fine when I left, but they have been getting a work out with all the rain. I'm one of those clean windshield freaks. So now I'm very happy with fresh blades....The simple things in life!!!!!

Ok, I had the oil changed. New Fuel Filter too. Changed wipers. Sanded down both terminals and post. I also noticed that the wing nut that holds the two positive cables to the post was not tight. One of the "wings" was hitting the crimp/connector preventing it from turning. Basically the wing nut was too big. So I replaced the wing nut with a regular nylon 5/16 lock nut I had in my bag. Now it is nice and tight. I think that was the culprit on the "M" and "S". I guess we will find out today.

I'm off to Denali National Park.

Yes, the terminals are not OEM. However the M and S came back 2 mins ago when I put it in reverse......

Sock at the pump??? I was at Jiffy lube and they said they had an in line fuel filter for it and I said go ahead and replace it. So I don't really know what was replaced. There isn't a fuel filter????

There is no in line fuel filter on your model. There is a screen (fuel filter) on the fuel pump buried in the fuel tank, I doubt if they would replace that since they are not available, and they would have to lift the carpet in the cargo area (big job).
Unless someone installed an after market fuel filter....

Did they top off your blinker fluid for $10, too? I don't let any shop change my truck's oil. It's a simple job, sure, but when I do it I know I am paying attention 100% and I know exactly what's going in and what's coming out. Changing oil yourself is a simple way to track the health of your engine. If something is unusual about your used engine oil that's a clue to other problems that might not have presented obvious symptoms elsewhere.
