Down here, time is irrelevant. For example, today I'm already on my 3rd JD and Coke and it is noon....

And they are not pussy singles either. Double tall, like a man...

Reminds me of a girl that I dated for a while ages ago. During idle chit-chat she asked me what my preferred drink was. I replied, "Vodka". She then asked, "Don't you put anything in it?!?" to which I responded, "Ice".

Did you fish the Kenai?

No. I just started fishing again recently. In fact the first time I ever fly fished was on this trip on the San Juan River in New Mexico, a few weeks ago. If I ever go back to Kenai, I will have my fly rod with me though.

Should have gone fishing for northern pike or muskie while you had the chance. You catch some of them and you won't want to go swimming in a lake for a while. I don't know if you have them down there. I know your gonna say you have gators.

I've seen those pikes and muskies on that TV show River Monsters. They look prehistoric and scary.

I grew up in the Atchafalaya Basin Swamp and the Gulf of Mexico. Morgan City, La. Check it out on a map. I only swim in pools.....

I fished a good bit when I was younger. Freshwater bass and saltwater speckeled trout and reds. In my adult life I was racing dirt bikes until last year when I busted my ass real good. So I just started bass fishing again. I went in the Gulf in May and caught some reds and specs with a friend. All my friends have boats and fish a good bit. So I'm starting to get back into it more. I had just never fly fished before. I have a Orvis fly rod set up though, my uncle left it for me after he died. It is a heavy saltwater setup.

I'm a 6hdcp golfer and used to play Amateur tournaments when I wasn't racing. However I spend more time at soccer fields now with my 8 yr old boy. I'm coaching his team this fall. In fact we are going to Houston on Friday to watch Lionel Messi, his favorite player, play for Argentina against Bolivia. I've never seen a real mens's soccer game live, so it should be fun.

I have a few more pics of my trip in Utah and Colorado. I didn't want to bore ya'll with the family vacation pics in Canada, Montana, and Wyoming. I've been busy working on Rover and other things around the house that I neglected during the prep for the AK trip.

Mosquito Alley
I do some salt water fly fishing when I get a chance, reds and spotted trout in the Mosquito Lagoon in FL. There are some monster reds lurking around the ML. I have a fishing kayak that I take out on the flats, I stand up on the kayak and fly cast around if the wind allows, otherwise I use a bait chucker. One day I was sitting and drifting along when I noticed a submerged log coming up. It looked like my kayak will float over it, but then when the bow got to about 12" from the log it broke the surface and two nostrils opened up. Oh shit, everything happened fast after that, the gator whacked the bow with its teeth and then whacked the side with its tail, then scooted off fast. I packed up and fooked off in the opposite direction. My kayak now sports some cool battle scars :)

Exactly why I will never fish out of a kayak. Maybe a canoe. Down here gators are everywhere! Sharks too! They chase the fish you are reeling in right up to the boat!

I didn't catch this one, my life long friend Cory Hebert caught this big Bull Red when I went with him in May. That is him holding it. We were east of Mississippi River down by Empire, La. about 10 miles offshore by some pilings. I caught several smaller Reds, but he pulled in the hogs. He caught another one a little bigger than this one that day.

So I dropped the wife and boy off at the aiport in Salt Lake and headed to Moab on Hwy 6. Very pretty drive. I've been all over southern UT, but never on this road. It was nice.

I took the route that Chris suggested from Moab to Paradox, CO. Awesome route!

Well that is all the pics from my 33 day trip to AK and back. I didn't have my phone with me when I was fly fishing the next day. So that is it. It was truly the trip of my lifetime. I enjoyed it so much that slipping back into my normal life has sucked!!!!!

I want to thank Discoweb bc w/o all of your feedback, I would not have made it. Even a big thanks to the negative Nancy's who provided me with motivation to not be a pussy.

I hope that any of you who dream of taking on a trip of this magnitude are able to pull it off. It was expensive and time consuming, but absolutely worth it. I would leave tomorrow and go do it again if I could.

Any questions about what I brought and what I didn't bring, or routes, etc...feel free to ask.

So I guess the answer to my 1st post, was yes, you can buy a 12 year old D2 with 106k miles and make it to AK and back!

Im just so sad to see this thread go away before hell boy comes back. I bumped this thread to the top in an effort to keep the porch light on for Rover from Hell.

Glad to see the trip go well. Same day grilling of Northern Pike and Walleye are yummy. Thanks for the memories on that.

Lot of loose cattle. This one was stubborn, thought it was going to charge me.

That's a calf Chris. He would charge you but mama would reel him in. Watch a calf run sometime, its funny as shit. They kind of run with the back legs and keep hopping in the front. If your gonna get bit by a cow, its gonna be a calf.
