What winch do you run?

The Superwinch TigerShark is a great entry level winch. The speed is slow, but thats what you get with a lower priced winch. Ive used mine several times over the last few years and have never had an issue.

That said. Superwinch is coming out with a new redesigned Tigershark.. Just heard that last night from someone who works closely with Superwinch.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I've been fairly happy with my TS(s). That said, my fav still is the EP9.

I've had a Warn- always worked but occasionally made funky noises

Milemarker-always worked but sloooooooow. safety feature cuts it off if it exceeds 100*F

Superwinch TS- newest one. seems decent- always worked- (both times I used it-;))

A chunk of the housing on my Superwinch EPi 9.0 fell off due to corrosion. The winch still works, but I'm going to replace it with a Husky 10 in the near future.

I should rephrase. I have a Husky 10, I just haven't installed it because I don't have the bumper and brush bar setup I want. I also need to buy a synthetic line for it.

Great, thank you all for the info,

I am liking the TS.
-What is the general consensus, steel or synthetic?
-9500 or 11500? price difference is $150
-Is it easier to install on a bumper before the bumper goes in?
-if so, how much easier?

I would go with Synthetic. Its lighter and safer. Downside its not durable like steel. Just keep it clean and out of the sun if possible.

The only reason I have steel cable is because the synthetic version was not available yet when I bought mine. I found out you can't just swap over rope either because the brake is in the drum on the steel version. So keep that in mind.

A bigger winch is heavier, but more capacity is never a bad thing!

Depends on the bumper. Its usually easier to mount the winch in the bumper first Especially if you take the grill out. But it can be done both ways..

FWIW, I don't think winches were made specifically for synthetic rope back when I bought mine. I've had the same winch rope for about 10 years and have had no issues. The very bottom wraps have some flatness to them which may be from melting, but I think it is probably from just being on there so long. A few years ago I pulled the rope off and washed it, but other than that it has always been on my winch and in the sun.

The most important thing with synthetic is to pull straight. Every synthetic rope I've seen break has broken because of winching at an off angle.

Yeah when I used some synthetic line with my Warn XD9000 it lasted for one wheeling trip.... The issue was the line speed, and the drum got extremely hot & the first and second row of line melted to the drum. Warn got a lot of complaints about synthetic line melting with the XD9000 so Warn came out with their own synthetic line, but it was nearly half the price of the winch.

After tossing 300.00 out for the first synthetic line I went back to my OEM steel cable, and as long as I use it properly, check for kinks, burs, and spray it down with water/WD40 after each use I basically never had to buy another cable. It does weigh a lot more, it can be extremely dangerous if not respected and used properly ( always place something in the middle of the cable to make it drop to the ground if it snaps), but for my use I'll stick with steel cable vs synthetic line.

They've advanced in the protection of the synthetic line and I hear it's not as UV sensitive as it was, but I'm still on my original cable on my Warn M8000 so until it dies I'm fine for now.

My biggest complaint on the TS is the line speed. If you rarely use it then it's not bad but on one of my trips to WindRock we did a really long pull and the thing was super slow. So when I got home I ordered the X2O and have never looked back. The X2O is maybe $50 more but is water proof, comes with a wireless remote, is almost 70% faster and has a better warranty.

I still have the TS but it's been moved to my trailer.

The biggest downside to the X2O so far is that people think of it as a Jeep winch.

I run a Goodwinch TDS-9.5c both in the front and in the back. The rear one is mounted so i can take the rope up at the top of the rollbar, or out in the back. The front one has a turbocontroller, switching the batteries from paralell to serial, giving me approx 18-20 volt on the winch under load (qualified guess). I also have Air operated freespool on both winches, and Dyneema bowrope on both.
The winches are made by KingOne, but I bought them from Goodwinch

I had a winch on my previous truck, and never used it, I think, the winch will see very little use

I certainly like the waterproof vs the weatherproof

If you've ever seen and been able to compare both a steel line and a synthetic line snapping, there's only one answer to that question.

I honestly have never even given any thought to line speed. A Husky is probably the slowest I've used, but that didn't leave me wanting it to be faster.
